6mm Creed Barrel Length with 70 gn BlitzKing

Hi guys,

I am in the process of a predator rifle build and could use some insight from those who know better than I. I was curious if any of you have built a short barrel 6mm Creedmoor to be used with lighter bullets? It looks like most of the testing with factory ammo is with a 24" barrel. If I were to build this thing with a 20" barrel would that be detrimental to the velocity and or overall performance? Nosler suggest their 6mm creed with a 70gn varmageddon will do 3500 fps out of a 24" barrel.

I have seen the 6mm creed barrel cut down test, but I was not sure if I could take their velocity drop per inch and apply it to the 70 gn bullet/velocity?

In the end it likely doesnt matter, as the coyote on the other end wont know if it was a 20" or a 24" barrel.

Much appreciated for any info that can be provided,
Calvin

Just chambered a 6 creed 22" 12 twist with zero freebore. Running 70 gr nbt's @ 3450 very accurately. Not pushing them hard. Data is probably close depending on barrel.

The furry little fellas are not going to know the difference between 3300 fps or 3500 fps
Just go with what is handiest for you to carry or shoot, since this is not a high round count rifle
or a long range 600+ shooter.

My thoughts as well. My goal for this is to keep it handy.
Thank you

I have a 10 twist 6xc 24”. I have killed a pile of coyotes with the blitz king, I shoot them at 3375fps. They work awesome.

Playing around with Quickload, it shows powders that produce best velocities in the 6mm Creedmoor and 70 Blitz loose roughly 40 fps per inch when going from 24" to 20".

I haven't tried a lot of loads. Started out with H4350 and 70 nbt's .010" off the lands. Shot great right off. Want to try some 760 one of these days. Been told it will be better on the throat. The way components are around here a guy doesn't mess around much if it's working. Got enough to last a couple of winters hunting dogs if I don't waste them.

My Blaser R93 custom Krieger 6XC is an eight twist, 20" long and I'm getting 3300fps with the 70gr BlitzKing bullets. It's like the Hammer of Thor on fox and coyotes out past 500 yards.

Have not chrono'ed the 70 gr. Varmagedons but my 6mm C M 26 inch barrel 1 - 10 Twist is rocking them accurately.
