Fast 6mm for Hunting

6 PRC.....

Way to go @alf. Now I want one of these.

I built a 20" 6-7PRC. It shoots the 115 Dtacs at 3300 fps. The reason I went with it over the 6UM was, you can use standard 7 PRC bushing dies w/correct bushing. ADG makes 7 PRC brass- neck down in a couple steps. Has plenty of case capacity to do what I want it to.
I have a couple suppressors I use a on it- a Scythe-Ti and my newest a Unknown Suppressors OG 6.5. the OG 6.5 is an over the barrel can, and only adds 4" to the length of your rifle. Also it only weighs 7.5 oz.

My 12 year old shot his first deer (336 yds) and first elk (474 yds) this year. In total it has taken 4 elk and 4 deer, none went anywhere after first shot. The barrel has 550 rounds on it, and when it is toast, I will do another 20" 6-7PRC.

With ADG making 6.8 Western brass if I was looking for something a little faster then my 6-284 I think a 6-6.8 Western would be the easy button. Standard Redding bushing dies to size and neck your brass down and it would easily be equivalent to if not just a tiny bit more case capacity then the 6UM. It'd be just a simple straight neckdown without any fireforming.

I don't think you could go wrong with a 6-6.5PRC either and in fact it being a little less overbore probably would be the more practical choice.

I have no complaints with my 25RSAUM but to do all over I'm not so sure I wouldn't go 25 Western and get the slight bump in case capacity.

I have a 6 Remington Ackley Imp. Not for everyone due to brass but it’s real close to a 6-284 which I also had once. Doing it over a 6-284 would be easier just necking down 6.5-284 brass. Both are great cartridges and fast but don’t know how they would be in a short barrel

I’ve got a little over 100 rounds on my 18” 6prc shooting 105 hybrids…3100fps and deadly on stuff. If I sold it today, I’d build another one. I toyed with the 6um but Lapua brass pushed me to the 6prc.

I went with the 6 7 prc. But had a 80gr bullet in mind when I built them. It did a number on the whitetails this year. Plan on shooting coyotes with it as well
We did Bergera actions and 22" shilen barrels. 1000002430.jpg
