6mm Bullet Measured Comparisons / From A-Tips to Z

ELR LVR

Silver $$ Contributor
6mm Bullet comparison measurements taken from 12 different Bullets
Ranging from Berger 95's up to DTAC 115's
Terms:
Comp = Base to Ogive measured with Sinclair Hexnut Type Bullet Comparator
OAL = Overall Length of Bullet, from base to Tip
Measured These two parameters only
This was to get a general idea which maker of bullets puts out the most consitent in one box of 100
A Sample of (10) total of Each Brand and type was measured
Higher number samples were not taken because within just 10 measured it gave enough of an idea how much variance there is from bullet to bullet in each box of 100.
Some measured so extreme out of just (3) in one box there was no point in even going further
No weights were taken except for 112 Matchburners because I got tired,
.....and figured you would sort your own that way if you like
1)
Berger 95 VLD Tgt

Bergers, Walt began making bullets in 1954 because then the bullets in the marketplace did not meet his exacting standards for precision and excellence. (too bad whoever bought Berger did not uphold that as you will see.
Bullets back when Walt made them in his Garage and you called him to order some were included in this test to show the difference between then and now.

Interesting. I don't believe I could shoot the difference in variance on target. Any reason you measured the 105 Amax twice?
I dont know if I will shoot the difference on target much neither
But me thinking that way is likely a detriment of specultion until I prove it
My research shows the people who trim Meplats and or, just tip alone
See less vertical,
I "Think" I shoot good enough for my intended purpose and discipline
and the bullets I use give me good results within that purpose.
With the time it takes to load, reload, etc, and thinking of adding more and more steps and time etc etc
Just almost makes serching for something like 1/4" inches at 600 yards or something almost not worth the effort to me, because I can live with that.
I suppose this is something , another step, another Option, if it is useful.... to take to help ensure our groups are as tight as possible
IF
we are searching for that
(I see guys with stocks with 5 inch wide forearms and such, maybe those are the the type of shooters that would benefit from this most.
My chassis'ed rig weighs 20 lbs already and I need to be able to carry it so am not planning on making my rig any bigger, bulkier , wider, etc just to benefit from a small amount of added accuracy.
But I dont know how much benefit equalizing OAL for instance (trimming meplats) may give me
....until I put some of this to the test
My Meplats are already rather small and Some bullets like Sierra's are already pointed
But, I dont have the time right now, to trim bullets and every other step involved so
just to even test this out takes time I have to wait or schedule in to have... lol
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'd rather just go out and shoot and practice
