6mm brx question

I want to make sure everything is about right, after fire forming I'm measuring from base to shoulder with gauge supplied with my widden fls die, my measurement with primer removed , no bump is 1.246.

Next my primers aren't looking very good, from what i've read I need to change to CCI 450, I'm using cci br-4

What's the load? False shoulder or jammed? I use soft Winchester small rifle primers and Varget, with no ejector and a hard jammed 107SMK for fire forming. 450's next time around in formed brass. Yes your primers arn't looking too happy.

Wow mate they look like to hot loads, even see ejector marks on them
Did you Fire form and then put these loads in then test?
Start at 32gr and work up of varget if already FF
Ok my FF load of 30gr and 105gr bullets jammed .030 thou and 205m primers was 1.500 give or take
Now my hydro formed and then shot with 32.5gr turned out shorter, avg 1.495 or something
My load is 32.4gr with 105gr hybrids doing 3000fps
#####OH shit that was my overall length of brass.. will have to meaure my headspace as I cant remember exactly But 1.246 sounds bloody close to mine

33.8 is way too hot for fire forming. 30 grains will do the job. Most BRX shooters I know run around 33 with the fire formed brass and the 105. It also looks like you would benefit from having your firing pin hole bushed.

33.8 is really hot. Many rifles won't get there as a working load. Both mine would probably trash brass there.

I Fire form with 30.5 of Varget, which is stiff, 107SMK .050" over full jam with a Win small rifle primer and no ejector. Cases come out very nice with the shoulders well formed. I would go any higher for fire forming. And they shoot great at 600 during match's.

I start load development at 31 and expect to find a good load some where in the 32 to low 33 range. One of my BRX's gets sticky with ejector marks at 33 and shoots great at 32.5 with 107's .010" in.

Both my BRX's have slightly long headspace compared to others. I bump accordingly so they won't match yours.

comagusta , that solved the problem, first I fire formed at 30 varget I noticed primers were cratered, so I did a little load development for the heck of it, and ran it up to 33.8 at 3151 fps the accuracy was just under 1/4 moa at 200 yards, then I said to myself, Self, there's a problem here , either headspace or primer, so I needed a measurement ,, your measurement told me my headspace was good , so only one thing else to do was primer , I put in a cci 450 , at 33.5 varget , BANG ! we're good to go, perfect primer, so now I will start over, probably start at 32 and go up from there, sure hope I can get under 1/4 moa again, I have a 300 yard match may 13th, then I want to shoot some 600 yard BR and F/class, this rifle is a trued savage target action, 29 inch krieger HV 1/8 twist

I have not seen a Savage rife yet that didn't benefit from having the firing pin bushed. In fact, I wouldn't shoot one that wasn't. You will still have pierced primers when it gets warm. Sorry...

effendude, interesting, I have several savage target actions all using br-4 primers, 30Br, 308, lapua small primer brass, 6br, 223 and never have had any primer issues, but I will keep that in mind.

Am on my fourth bbl in BRX. I shoot Varget and RL 15 with S107s or 105 Hybrids in an 8 Twist bbl. Sweet spot is 33.5 gr of either powder in formed cases.
I too would suggest bushing ur firint pin hole. Did that on my 40x and that was the ticket.

One of the sweatest shooting rounds out there.

I have no BRX experence, but am going on the assumption that the BRX and the Dasher are clones. My FF loads, which have made many, many hundreds of VERY uniform brass, is 31 G Varget behind a hard jammed 105 Berger BT in false shouldered brass with a VERY hard crush fit. 33.anything grains of Varget has to be WAY to hot for a FF load IMO.

Maybe you miss read no ne FF with 33 grs, after FF I shot up to that looking for a load it was really accurate at 3151fps but really cratered and screwed up a few pieces of brass, when I FF at 30 gr everything was fine no problem

Sorry...got it. I was looking at post's 2 and three. BUT....3150 seems kinda fast. I think the top loads (or top NODE) I have seen or heard about are in that 3050 - 3070 range for the BRX/Dasher. Again, that is me assuming that the BRX and a dasher are twins. That is usually between 32 and 33 grains of RL15/Varget and a 105 -108 class bullet. 450's are the norm.

Again...just my opinion.

4xforfun, when I started this project I read several articles here's one of them http://www.accurateshooter.com/cartridge-guides/6mmbrimproved/ I read others also , so I loaded according to these articles, I have foiund 33 plus is to hot for my barrel , but appantly it works for some, I found two nodes just the other day after posting this, one at 31.5 at 2950 and 32.1 at 3001. I'm hoping the weather is going to be good this morning I'm am loaded in those areas 31.5 to 32.1 with bullet in and out of lands to see what my best might be, I have a 300 yard match in two wks so I need the right load soon, I won this match last year with my 308.

Yes, I shoot at STL BR when they have the Mid-Range prone matches. Usually shoot my BRX.

I load my cases with very light neck tension and the bullets seated .040" long. The rifling seats the bullets when the bolt closes. Also shooting coated bullets. Moly as well as HBN.
