6mm BRA RE 15.5

Anyone trying 15.5 in the BRA?

My findings so far:
7.83 twist; Lapua Brass; CCI 400; 105vld; 31grs RE 15.5 equaled 2869-2878

8 twist; Lapua Brass; CCI 400; 105vld; 31.5grs Re 15.5 equaled 2901-2907

I would like to try these loads with a CCI 450 and see if there is any change.

Please keep us posted on your results
31.5grains appears to be all I can stuff in a case without affecting bullet seating. It’s full. That’s with a drop tube.
I could probably go slower and take time pouring the powder but that’s really not my speed.

This evening would have been excellent for testing at 600 here. I wasn’t loaded up though

Well, shoot. Looks like Jeff listed two rigs and loads on the equipment list for light gun. One was running 15*5 the other 8208.

Maybe he will come along and let us know.

Clay,
Yes, I shot a 6BRA in LG.

For the 600 portion: 15.5 powder @ 2940 fps, Peterson Brass, NT chamber, VT103.
For the 1000 portion: 8208 powder @ 2925 fps, Lapua Brass, .268 neck chamber, VT103.

Same rifle - two different barrels.

The groups shot in this post were also from the same LG with 15.5:

Thanks
I appreciate you sharing that information....... and congratulations, that was a stellar performance at the NATs!!

31.6grs of 15.5 with a 105vld and cci450 gave me 2912fps
90degree heat

was that compressed dale? i can’t fit that much rl-16 in the case even with a drop tube. i haven’t seen 15.5 in person but had assumed it’s close in grainsize/fill density from some other posts.

I have testing ammo loaded with RE15.5 and 103VT.
At 31.5 grains the VT bullet base sits just above the powder column. No compression felt or heard in seating. I do not remember my seating depth number off-hand so your results may vary.
That is with Alpha OCD brass.
Interestingly, my Alpha 6 Dasher brass (not OCD) has an H2o capacity of about 2.3 grains more than my Alpha 6BRA (OCD) brass.

I would consider that load very full and as close to compressed as you could get.
I’m using a 12” drop tube. I went really slow seating the bullet listening for powder to be compressed and trying to feel any difference in bullet seating.

I’m going to continue going up a tenth at a time until I get seating issues but I really think 31.6 is all I will feel comfortable loading. I’ll likely test some Barts bullets too.

RL-16 has sparked my interest as well based on some H4350 readings but never have gotten around to playing with it and I’m really having my doubts based on my 15.5 findings. I guess everyone’s technique, barrel, equipment, and mostly opinions really do vary. What speeds did you see with 16?

I wish this picture was better but thought I’d share anyway. Hard to get a perspective but it’s 31.7 grains

Next outting will be a 5 shot group at 600 with 31.7 and 31.8grains asap

I've worked with RL16 a bit. Had great success with it in 6 Creedmoor and 105 Berger Hybrid. Also tried it in the 6.5-47L which is a much larger case than either Dasher or BRA. I could never get an efficient load in the 6.5-47 even with 123SMK. There was just no way to get enough in the case to make the expected velocity.
I am very skeptical of RL16 (due to density) that it is optimal for anything on a BR case.

I've had really good results with R-16 in the Dasher. I'd love to be able to fit more in the case, but full-up with Lapua (35.6 grs.) or Alpha (35.1) produces excellent and stable velocity and very good precision. Drop tubes are a must, but the powder does a great job in the Dasher. I recommended R-16 to a friend that shoots a BRDX, and he swears by it, too.

I shot this evening and gathered a little more info.
I switched to a 102 which allowed me to get 32grs of 15.5 with drop tube. This was a 27” barrel

You sparked my interest in RL16 as well as reading some buzz about H4350. I knew they are pretty close so I shot a little today to get some starting numbers.
32.5 ran 2885, 2888, 2883
33grs of RL16 at 600yds
This was from my tactical rifle off a phoenix bipod
