6mm BRA Lapua rifle vs 6mm BRA Alpha rifle side by side

Read this - to answer all your questions-

Gabe, I read that over & over lol. What I thought was different in my case was my alpha chamber was cut with Alpha’s own 6 BRA reamer. I thought that would eliminate those problems. I have a prs friend out west that did the same thing. He’s just going to shoot his barrel out at slower speeds & go back to a dasher or gt.

I’m not going to post any more here-
Your answers lay in this thread posted above-
You read- you see exactly your problem is repeated over & over , over again-….
Answered time& time again !!!!!

Thank you very much Gabe. Please accept my best wishes.
As I read the thread the difference I saw was the chambers that were discussed were cut by non-alpha reamers that were larger at the .200 line and mine was cut by an Alpha reamer that supposedly addressed the difference in chamber size.
The problem for me is solved whether I understand the thread or not. The Lapua chamber with Lapua brass works very well. So moving forward I will have a fine shooting 6 BRA whether or not I understand what you are trying to get across to me. My thanks are sincere and I appreciate you.

Not sure I can add much at this point. Glenns original brass that broke records and held pressure, gave the same problems everyone else is having in a new barrel cut with the same reamer. So there must have been something about the first barrels bore and groove dimensions that lowered pressures enough for it to work. Thats well used brass thats expanded as much as its going to. I really dont know the answer. And Im not going to try to figure it out either.

I thought using an Alpha reamer designed & cut for thier brass would solve the problem. It didn’t. I’m not going to concern myself with it anymore either. The Lapua chambered barrel I now have shoots better than any barrel I’ve ever had. I’m old and will just enjoy a combination that works great. The only problem I see for me is load development. When one shoots this good how do you get it better! Just joking, as when I take it to 1000 & 1200 yards will be the real test. I look forward to trying to improve my skills enough to take advantage of such a fine shooting platform.

Bc’z, on your statement wondering if the Lapua will shoot in the Alpha chamber someone that I have much respect for said I could probably do it using a Harrel’s #4 die.

The Lapua barrel shoots so good without any headaches I’m going to just focus on it moving forward. On the other barrel I am either going to sell it cheap or load it light to use practicing positional shooting & maybe shooting a crow or two. Once it’s gone that experiment will disappear while I focus on the Lapua chamber. That one hole group was shot with a bipod & using my hand on the butt, absolutely no load development while FFing.
I like Alpha in 22 gt, 6 gt, & 25 cm. I thought having that chamber cut with the Alpha reamer I would avoid the troubles that plagued others.

Thanks for all the help from everyone!
Lynn
In my experience the Harrels #4 is going the wrong way in the Alpha and not needed for Lapua.
I think others have said it helped the Alpha.

A lot of us tried years ago with the ppc to go smaller at the 200 line. That was the wrong way to go. I wouldnt think it would help here either.
Probably no one will ever know Lapua secrets to holding the pressure they do
Stick with the Lapua

I have a question on this. So is the JGS Wheeler 6BRA #1 reamer with the newer OCD Alpha brass a problem. Also, how do I know if I have the newer brass for sure, is all OCD labeled brass the new style?

Thanks!
This is the reamer used to chamber my bra with a 268 neck. The Alpha OCD brass worked fine and was very accurate. I just could not run it up to the velocity that I can the Lapua without getting pressure signs and heavy bolt lift. If you want to shoot the 2900-2930+- node, the alpha worked fine for mw with zero problems.

Agree 100% on group size. The Alpha will shoot groups the same, just with a lower charge. The truth of the matter is I have more rifles in different cartridges than I like. I prefer few rifles with high familiarity. I don’t want 2 6 BRAs with different chambers and different brass. I see advantages with the Lapua and another very important reason is I think I have a very special gunsmith that will keep me taken care of with barrels with Lapua chambers.
Pending funds I think the Alpha barrel & 300 Alpha brass is sold for a crazy low price to someone who doesn’t care at all about the higher velocities.
