6mm BR vs 6.5x47?

I had a good 47 and it would win at 1000 but it can't compete with the Dasher for accuracy………. close maybe but cigar…. jim

Jim, is it possible that perhaps you didn't have a good enough barrel on the 47? I'm sure you've had Dashers that shot bad before, I know I had one.

Erik, I had multiple barrels on it but one did the best with JLK 130's and Varget, but thats when after the lot was done every other lot of Varget wouldn't shoot. I was forced to RL-15 and it was the next best, All barrels acted the same i did try 140 also. The Dasher will shoot with any good powder but i found it was the best with RL-15….. lot to lot no big deal ….. jim

this is a great topic, and has been the talk at our club by several shooters last few days, but the original ? was BR vs -47 we all know the dasher is by far better, can we add some savage bashing into this and spice it up some! LOL

Jim, most of the guys shooting really good with the 47 are using 140 gr. Hybrids and H4350. I haven't shot my 47 in a couple of years but will start shooting it again soon. It is a fun gun to shoot due to the little recoil compared to the 7mm's and .300 WSM's. The 47 is competitive out to 1,000 yards in F-Class until the wind really starts to blow, after that the 7mm's and .30's take over.

I set back a .243 factory barrel on a Remington 700 a couple of days ago. I ran a no turn Dasher reamer in there and took it out yesterday. Boy did that thing shoot big groups (3"+)! LOL. I tried 85 gr Interbonds and it did not like them at all. I will try different bullets in it. All I'm looking for is 1/2" at 100 yards since it is a lightweight hunting rifle.

Erik, i plan on revisit the 47 with a longer throat and see what it will do with 4350…….. what free bore?…… jim

Have a seating die made from your reamer and if you want more than once fired brass you will need a store bought sizer. You asked for the best not the easiest or cheapest. I just got a sizing die For my 6BRDX from John Whidden- really quality die.

For factory dies I have never had issues with Forster or Whidden. Might not be up to custom levels but have provided very accurate ammo for myself.

I bought a 6.5x47L reamer from JGS, .1634" FB. I bought a 8.5 twist Krieger HV and have been very pleasantly suprised by the accuracy of this case. I strongly feel its the only thing outside the 6mm`s that can be discussed. I have less than 100 rounds on my barrel, and have shot a 1.390" 4 shot group @ 600 with 130 VLD`s +.010" and RL15 @ 37 grains. I`m on board with this round, maybe consider an improved version for the 140`s.

I will call tomorrow and see if this is a possibility to make an improved 6.5x47L die. They list the 6.5x47L so my hopes are high.

Jim, was this a reply to the improved 6.5x47L. Will they make a FL die for this?

It's for a 6.5 x 47L you send them fired cases and they will send you a die. That's what i use for a Dasher also But i had set my reamer up for the D3 die and it works perfect, so i see know reason that the 47 won't be the same……. i would guess it doesn't take long, but the best part if it doesn't work like you want they will take care of you……. jim
