6MM BR shoulder set back

OK Iam using a Wilson bushing die and was wanting to know how to bump the shoulder back .002 .I have a Wilson case gage and a Redding small base body die. I just don"t want to set the shoulder back to far.Does anyone have a good way of going about this?I have never had to do this before.

Sell all that stuff and call Lynwood Harrell, tell him you are sending him 2 fired cases from the BR and in a week or so he will solve all your problems. When the die arrives, place a hard chambering case into the shellholder of your press and screw the die down onto it. Now withdraw the case and screw the die in just a little to size the case a little more. Chamber the case. If it is still tight, screw the die in a little more and repeat. It will take several adjustments before you have it just right. Remember, make small adjustments to the die so that when the case chambers completely freely, you have only adjusted a very small amount and are only bumping the shoulder .001-.002. FL size every time you pull the trigger on a case. When you only size this small amount, the brass will last forever unless you use very hot loads. I have cases that are older than me;).

None of the dies that you have will set the shoulder back. As Tightneck sayeth, you need a shoulder bump die. The Harrell is a good one and will not only bump the shoulder but will take your Wilson bushings to size the neck and has interchangebale base bushings to size the base if necessary.

Plus, talking to Lynwood is priceless.

interchangeable base bushings to size the base if necessary.

Ray, can you elaborate on this, I have two of Harrell's FL dies and havn't heard or seen anything about the bases bushings ?

I'm referring to the Harrel bump die, not FL. It takes the neck bushings on the top end and base bushings on the bottom.

$70 - $80 two years ago got me a 15 minute conversation with Lynwood and it was worth every penny. The die was just a bonus.

Baily,

And the Harrell die comes with a simple to use brass shoulder gauge to boot !!! Great product, just wish they had more calibers available. Perhaps one for the BRX ? Hint, hint ... :)

You can bump the shoulder back with any Full length sizing die. A simple way to check how much you are bumping it back with out a lot of expensive equipment is to take a 38 Special or any pistol case that will strip down over the neck of the 6 br case. Measure the total length of the cases with the mouth of the pistol case touching the shoulder the 6br case. Then size the case and measure it all again the same way. The difference between the two will be the amount the shoulder is pushed back.
