6mm BR improved, whitch one?

I am leaning towards the BRX seems to have the most bang for your bucks, nothing special but fire forming brass, from what I have read, will use in 600 yard competition, but mainly I allways need to have a project going are I get really bored, when you retire you gotta do something to keep the wheels turning are they will rust.

Good choice?

fm1947,
Haven't heard from you in a while, I think any of the improved versions are great rounds I have both the Dasher and the 6brx, both do well at 600-1000 yards but the 6brx can use the 6br dies so if you already own dies then yes there's more bang for the buck if not then it's a wash IMO but if 600 yards is tops why not just stick with the 6br?

Check out the eqpt list for the last 600 yd nationals, and you should have your answer. The 6 Dasher dominated. Most of those guys can shoot whatever they want and have shot most chamberings, but they were using the Dasher when it counted most.

Hey bozo, I have been trying to get in here more, if I do I will go with brx.

gmorganal, yes I check that out several times, I don't have any intentions of shooting any national events, all my shooting is local and just looking for a project just a step up from my 6mm BR , got brass and dies so I am good to go.

I started shooting BRX 2 years ago. Lapua Brass, 33.2 gr Varget, Tula Primers, 105 Berger VLD Hunting. 3030 FPS, 15 FPS ES, 7 SD. Obtained my High Master with it in midrange and Master with it in Long Range. Never looked back. You will truly enjoy shooting and owning this gun.

bradbrx just replied to your other post, do you ever go anywhere south in the winter to shoot, I was looking around in Tenn, and Louisiana.

your not to far from me is why I ask, I get really bored in the winter, I did'nt get to shoot much this year are last due to medical issues but managed to shoot 3 maybe 4 all year and got 2 plaqes coming one for first in hunter class all factory shooters and one in VFS 2nd place did not get to shoot f-class.

you said your brx is running 3030fps funny I have a 30BR brand new shot one match thats running 3030

Good to here from you Brad

Brad , one more thing tell me all the about the barrel , make , how long, twist, contour, neck and freebore

I started out with a 6BR. I had a 6BRBS ( Bill Shehane 6BR imp) My smith got Bob Crones BRX reamer from Bob. I had a 6BR punched to BRX in 2005, and sarted shooting great right off. I was hooked from there. I have shot 3 IBS records with the 6BRX, but I think all the IMP's are the same. I would not trade one for the other, any of them are good. I just picked the BRX. The last barrel I did, was a 8.5 tw Krieger 26" ( alot of the guys say the short barrel / per Mike Davis and Richard Schatz so I tried it, shoot great. Don't pay extra for barrel length, leave it as long as you can. You should get 27" to 28".

Im partial to my 6brx. Have won several relays with it at 600yds and am shooting it at 1000 yds. Fireforming is a breeze- I use a near max load and a bullet that will tough the lands. I jam bullet .30 thou then pull the trigger. Experimentation will show the right combination of powder, etc. to get cases formed as sharp as possible. Dies are std. 6 br. dies.

The barrel started life at 30". When I got it, it had approx 800 rnds through it and was setup for a Nisika Action. It was then setup for my Savage 110 action. I had case head separation problems and sent it back to the smitty. He re-did the machine work so now it's approx 27". It's 1:8 twist, .272 neck, and .110 free bore. When I got it, the old Lapua brass was still available. When I replace the barrel, I'll probably go with the same setup with a tighter neck as I neck turn my brass and the new Lapua Brass is thinner. Fireforming was a breeze. I think I lost only 1 case during the process. Load the BR brass with 30 gr Varget, 95 grain "any" bullet .030 into lands and pull the trigger. I use Forester 6 BR dies and neck size only. If full length sizing is necessary, I use the a Redding die made from the reemer. I'm still using the same brass I started with. I purchased 200 and now have approx 2500 rounds down the tube. To date, I haven't found any reason to change calibers. It's inexpensive to load, extremely accurate and a joy to shoot.
It has been a no head ache gun.

bradbrx,

Sounds good and I know .272 is a no turn neck that is what my 6mm br is now, I have both redding S type and Forster dies, so good there and plenty of brass , I am sold on the BRX now it is best bang for buck, now just got to make a decision to either have Lester Bruno do it from blank or I could get a Shilen and do it myself on a savage target action, Lester did my 30 BR and could not be happier I know the gun will shoot a perfect score it is me that is the problem. I neck turn also so will go with tight neck and probably set it up with bullet with no freebore with 105 or 107 gr bullet. thanks for your input.
