6mm Berger 108 and 105 Bullet Question

Guys,

What is the difference between the 6mm Berger 108g BT Target (PN# 24431) and the Berger 105 BT Target (PN#24428). Do they have the same shape and only the weight is the difference? I can typically get the 108g Berger to shoot rather well, but I rarely hear of anyone shooting the 05g BT Target. On paper they look like the same plus or minus the 3 grains.

I will give you my 2 cents. The 108gr. Berger B/T is one of the finest, most consistently accurate 6mm bullet made. The ..511 B.C. is, in my humble opinion, grossly understated. I believe it is right with either the Hybrid or the VLD. I have had LOADS of experience with it. The Berger 105gr B/T is one of the most accurate 6mm bullets on the market, rivaling, if not the equal of the 108.. However, it's B.C. is fairly low for a 105 and I believe that is the reason why it is not "the fair haired bullet" and the 108 and Hybrids are. But it is very accurate and for 300-500 yards it is more than acceptable.

I forgot to mention, the bearing surface of the Berger 108 is the longest I know of, about 60 thousandths LONGER than the 105 B/T. So WILL run pressures quicker with the 108 by far, than the 105 B/T..

The 108-BT is around 0.040" longer then the 105-BT, and a slightly different ogive radius.
From which it also has a little more BC (.511 ver .493)

I typically jump my 108s in the .010-.015 range and they seem to do well there for the barrels I run them thru. Do you think the 105g BT Target prefer jump or jam?

Try running the 108's either 7 thousandths IN the lands OR right at 16-17 thousandths OFF the lands. Try the 105 Berger B/T 5 thousandths OFF the lands. Those are good "starting" points. You MAY find you won't have to adjust the seating depths>>but you may!

Thanks SD, I may have to try them. I was just curious because I never here of many shooting them in 600 or 1K BR. The 108s shoot so good out of my barrels that I wanted to give them a try out at 600.

And you are spot on, I have been running the108s at .015 off from touch and the seem to be pretty happy there.

I have shot the 108's out of a Dasher many times at 1000.. If the wind is not TOO contrary, you will do very well indeed!

Last year I shot some in Wisc. I was using 105 Hyb and had gotten good accuracy at 100& 200 yards but when I got up there I was spreading bullets all over the place. I made some friends up there and they advised that I use the 108BT Target. Seeing as how first one and then (amonth later) the other won the Light gun (maybe the 2gun, don't member) I took their advise. I have sorted 500 and have shot quite a few tight 3 and 2s and one(only) 50-2x. We've been shooting in 10-16mph winds full value so we do not have many great groups

Berger 108's are very consistent, I never could make the 105's shoot as well

I have used about 150 105 gr. Hybrids trying to get them to shoot in my6-284. I can get no better than .750 at 100 yards. I am about .010 off. Might just have to try some 108's.

This. I jam them .010 in a 6BRAI and they just plain shoot, exceptional waterline. The Berger 105gr VLD hunting bullet may have a higher BC, but I give the edge in accuracy to the 108 - just.

Thanks. In match play "just" is often enough to make a difference while in hunting it makes no difference at all.

IIRC (according to this site's Daily Bulletin back when it was still 6mmBR.com), Berger tested three new Bryan Litz designs in the 105gn weight category. The 105 and 108 BTs were definitely two of them, and I assume the 105 VLD the third, but memory fails me on that. Normally two models would have been chosen, VLD plus one BT in those pre-Hybrid days, but Berger's own testing and range reports back from its volunteer testers said they were all really good and in the end they all went into production.

Like Shootdots, I've always been a fan of the 108 and noted too how many mid range BR wins were chalked up in the USA with them in Dashers and similar. Over here in he UK, the 108 never seems to have caught on as well, the VLD being the number one choice for most discerning BR and F-Class competitors, even now with the Hybrids as an alternative. This has been good news for me finding a few hundred still in stock at one of our main Berger importers last year at a time when nothing else was and doing a swap for VLDs with a friend. With a new straight 6BR just getting going now and a bastardized-Dasher 40-deg about to go into service, one of them at least should shoot this bullet really well. (Fingers and legs crossed!)

Just today I tested the 108's at 200 yards in my new BRA. Just touched in .003" at 2974 fps ( ES7) I made a hole for 5 shots of .2" Next test will be at 600 yards with different seating depths to try. First time I ever tried them. Never thought of trying in any of my Dashers.

Hey Capt.! T-Rust me, I used them extensively in 2 Dashers. I believe they have a HIGHER B.C. than what is stated. You will find they slice thru the wind very nicely. Even at 1000 yards, if you don't have blustery wind conditions, those 108s do very well.
