6mm barrel .236" or .237"

I'd like to hear opinions and experiences with 6mm barrel bore diameters of .236" and .237". I'm coming to the conclusion that .237" bore shoots better and is easier to maintain. Fact or fiction? Barrel makers please opine.

.237. Have had both and saw no advantage to the tight bore. It was popular back when 308 Palma rifles went to a tight bore to get the crappy issued ammo to shoot.

I have had both on a 6BR, they shoot the same. 237 is a lot more popular, and more available.
Krieger makes .237" bore barrels only in 13.5 twist (short range) and Brux is all .236". Bartlein is the only one with .237" 6mm barrels out of the big three. I'd like to hear who else is making .237" bore 6mm.

Any information on barrel brand that was used? Thanks for your help
.236" Krieger.

Most everyone will say there's no difference, including barrel makers, but there's more to it than just one or the other.

Here's Alex Wheeler's take on it:

There is so much more going on than bore diameter. Land to groove ratio, groove diameter, land width, land & groove shape/geometry like ratchet and cutter radius. You cant compare a Brux 236 to a Kriger 236 for example. And every barrel is slightly different, every time the cutter is sharpened, ext. A bore scope can tell you a lot about how the barrel is going to act so far as pressure curve. In a Krieger I prefer a 237 but I know of great results on the 236 as well. The bore diam is one dimension of many that vary.

Why and what have you seen to convince you of .236" for long range?
I've read it being the opposite - .237 for long range
Longer bullets, more bearing surface, less depth needed with land engravement
.0005" less engraving on each side may help bullet jacket longevity
Especially with long bullets that would heat up more due to more bearing surface
-----
Thats the theory anyway
I do know I have had problems with certain long range bullets blowing up before reaching the target
Tailoring everything would seem to include bore dia. as well

Generally, with a capitol G, is point blank shooters shoot flat base bullets with a pressure ring, so a "better" fit in a .237".

Long range shooters shoot boat tail bullets w/o a pressure ring, so a "better" fit in a .236".

Not so cut & dried when various bullets can & do measure over one thou in diameter.

Difference will be barrel to barrel in my experience. A good .236 barrel will outshoot a decent .237, and vice versa. I have seen no difference long or short range. It's like scoping a barrel to decide which one to use. I've seen a barrel look less than ideal, out shoot one I thought scoped perfect?

Roll the dice and hope for a good one, something that seems harder to get these days!

Brux .236 call and ask Ken why .236… because it wins no need to change

L Cazdor. Are you saying Bartlein doesn't offer a .236? I have one from my friend's estate that's a few years old. IDK

gmr4 Is the Brux button rifled? Wondering if that would make a difference.
