6mm arc bolt gun?

With all of the buzz about the ARC....i cant help to think this might be my new round to play with. Im building a gas gun asap....but also considering doing a bolt gun.

I dont see any manufacturers jumping to build one yet, but i assume (hope) this will change soon. I mean....this is a poor man's br size case with plenty of factory ammo given hornady putting it out.

Whats the consensus?
 
I would wait a few months and I am sure you can have your pick of CZ, Ruger and Howa as factory options since they chamber the Grendel already.
 
Well, for most of you, the Uintah Precision is already there. Our lovely politicians ( all hail Saint Jacinda) have banned all AR 15 lowers, so it's not an option for us. So..

Ruger- I wound expect to see the Ranch Rifle sometime soon. As it can come with an AR mag. I find the action a bit clunky as the bolt seems to wobble it's way through the magazine, buy thats only my opinion!

Howa- the Mini action is probably the best choice at the moment, except that the propriatory magazine is pretty awful and I hate manufaturers own mags anyway. Having said that the Howa bolt does not lend itself to the AR mag, so I guess that we are stuck with it, until a 3rd party supplier makes a better one. We are also stuck with the magazine size as Howa and MDT have made the chassis to it's length. Perhaps some enterprising soul will figure that one out at some point. I did come across the Henry Bros chassis recently which has a higher attachment point for the buffer tube/rear stock. Interesting idea.

I dont know much about the CZ, but probably OK for a hunting rifle, not what I would be looking for.

I wonder if, given the popularity (publicity?) of thes shorter cartridges, a manufacturer will come forward with a, say Howa Mini, footprint action?

I can only say that for over 30 years I've been a 6MM shooter. I am very interested in the 6MM ARC but only in the AR 15 platform. As a general purpose self loading hunting rifle the 6Mm ARC in an AR is ok, but as a combat rifle I find the concept intriguing.

I can see interest in it as a bolt gun chambering as it is similar to the 243 Winchester, in a bolt gun it will not reach the 243W capability. Which is why I shoot the 6MM Remington in my bolt gun, 243 +300 FPS with most projectiles.
 
6 Grendel, 6AR, 243LBC among a few others only thing Hornady did was shorten the COAL .010" and bumped the shoulder back around .020" this round is nothing new BUT I'm glad to see the round come out since I've had the 243LBC it is a round that has really impressed me over the years..... 95gr bullets seem to be the happy place with my 243LBC but it will shoot the 105-108's but you'll see better results with the 95's, it's not a 243 Win but it sure does a good job of nipping it's heals in a bolt rifle.
 
I too prefer the 6mm round over the 6.5’s. I am rounding 3rd base with my 6 Grendel build on a Rem Model 7 bolt gun. I’m looking to run Berger 95gr VLD’s in Lapua brass. I acquired a PT&G PPC bolt but I’m still waiting for my McGowen 1:8T barrel and Stocky’s stock. Hopefully my gunsmith will be able to get it bedded before Xmas
 
I have been rolling this around since the before the 6ARC was announced. I was tossing around the 6.5 Grendel and 6mmAR... Bolt Gun vs AR, hunting vs. precision.

I think that 6ARC is same as Grendel, which was designed to maximize performance out of a AR15 platform. The compromise for right-sizing the cartridge for the AR15 is lower velocity. If you are set on building a rifle with a mini-Mauser action, such as CZ 527 or Howa Mini, then Grendel/ARC is the best/biggest cartridge option for this size action.

I think there are a couple of cartridges better suited for a bolt rifle that are similar in size, but offer greater performance. If using a full size action then I would be tempted to take advantage of the extra room (longer case length). The new 6GT or even 6BR comes to mind, both which provides an additional 250-300fps while shooting 115gr bullets. Either of these rounds is only a minor increase in case length and powder volume over the 6ARC.

I'm not so sure I'd want to rely on the Grendel Bolt in the current configuration in Combat. Maybe a Hybrid with a larger Bolt Carrier Group to allow it more Meat.

Look at the 6 PPC same parent case as I understand, 220 Russian.

The military has the specs out, they have adopted a cartridge and awarded contracts, several military contractors have started producing product. I think the Grendel bolt is a non item, they'll most likely torture test and redesign.
 
I have 2 AR type 6mm Grendels one with a 24" Xcaliber barrel and the other a Black Hole Weaponry 20" barrel Polygonal Rifled. I also have several 6.5 Grendels. The 6's are quite a bit more accurate that my 6.5's. Like someone further up mentioned that the 95 Grain bullet seems to be the sweet spot and I concur with that. I saw the damaged bolt from the WOA article and as an old argument that the .136 depth bolt or the typical Grendel bolt seems to be weaker that the .125 or the AK bolt. There is also another stronger proprietary bolt that has been made with a lot stronger webbing and this may be the answer to the problem.
 
I have a few iterations of the Grendel in AR’s and the Howa mini’s to include 20, 224, 6mm, 6.5, and .311 and a pile of great quality Grendel brass to go with them all. I don’t foresee buying a chamber reamer in this one....
 
Howa is on Hornady's list of manufacturers participating in the 6mm ARC launch. Given that they already produce a mini in 6.5 Grendel, I think it's a safe bet that we'll see a 6mm ARC mini rolled out soon.
 
I have or had 6mm ar turbo 40 improved, 6mm ar, 243 lbs and a couple of grendel.

The turbo 40 improved is awesome. Pushing 105's easy 2850. The 6mm AR and 243 lbc lose about 100 fps from the turbo. That is why the 95's are more popular.

6mm arc loses more case capacity so will be slower especially with the 105's. They should have made it ackley improved and pushed the 95's. But then i am not hornady. And i still don't own a creedmoor.
