6mm AR Hog Rifle

A buddy called recently to ask about a good upper for his AR to use on Hog hunts.

I don't have any hog hunting experience myself, but I do have a 6BR that feeds okay for a match rifle. I can shoot 105gr bullets. That should be enough to kill cleanly?

i'm guessing a 6 Hagar or 6 Turbo might be more reliable for game.

Anyone have real life experience to help him out?

The only round that I know of that works well in an AR 15 is the 6 x 45. That is the 223 case necked out to 243.

I've killed several shooting something as small as 60 gr bullets in a little 221fb XP pistol and with calibers as heavy as 300 win mag as with everything clean humane kill is more about bullet placement then size.

I've killed several shooting varmit round out of my 223ar pop em behind the ear and they drop on the spot.

I having two new uppers currently being built, one will be in chambered 300 AAC Blackout for close fast shooting when your jump hunting them.

The 2nd will be a chambered for the 6mmDTK for long range shooting hogs and deer hunting.

For short range shots 450 Bushmaster or 50 Beowulf otherwise 30 Rem AR or 25 WSSM would be my top choices however a 223/5.56 will work.

Had a .243wssm in a AR15 upper great rifle. Had it setup for a 87gr vmax and it thumped pdogs. Shot an antelope with it. As far as 6mm you wont find a rifle with more thump in an AR 15.

How about the 6mmAR itself? It's the round developed by Robert Whitley; he has a website 6mmar.com. The 6mmAR is the 6.5 Grendel necked down to 6mm. I have a 6mmAR match grade upper on a Bushmaster AR15 lower. Works great - had the barrel chambered to feed 75 gr. VMAX. I'm sure you can shoot the heavier bullets as well. Don
