So very true!!!The wind is going to slaughter any 14 twist suitable bullet at 1K.......
I have a 6BR and a 6BRX. 14 twist. They will not shoot bullets over 70 GR with anything close to accuracy. You need 105-108 GR bullets for long distance and a 14 Twist won't shoot them. If you already have the barrel forget about long distance. Buy a barrel for 105 gr bullets. Are there any recommendations for a 6mm cartridge that would shoot well with a 1-14 twist barrel. This would be in a short action 308 bolt face and bullet recommendations and loads for target/br shooting from 100 to 1000 yards.
yeah but that is a bit short of 1000 yardsWell I can truly say my results are the opposite of wildcatter’s.......I’ve built many 14 twist Norma 6BR varmint rifles. Last count was 15 of them, BUT....and it’s a big BUT, I only chamber with a zero freebore reamer.
The intent is not to out group or out agg a PPC, because that’s not going to happen. If someone tells you they are or can, then their PPC is questionable at best.
However my experience has been for a live varmint/steel spinner rifle out to 300yd’s or a bit more using a 55 - 58 grain bullet in combination with Lapua brass & CCI450 primers.......it produce’s a rifle that shoot’s like a laser. And with excellent accuracy, in the calm it’s not difficult to print 5 shot groups you can cover completely with a quarter. I mean it’s only 300yd’s, you get those 55grn SBK’s going 3800fps and prairie dogs grow wings!!
Settle in on the 2” spinner at 300yd’s in the evening and spin it until you get hungry....but don’t miss or your partners watching in the spotting scopes will start in.....usually questioning if you should take up ping pong instead or if you normally shoot with your eyes shut....they shoot zero freebore 6BR’s too.....I Love America!!
Just as info:Who said anything about 1000 yards?
Of course the heavies hold a big advantage there, but show up at a short range match with heavies and you'll like go home humbled, at a measly 100-200 yard match.
Ahh. My mistake since the op did mention 100 to 1000.Just as info:
46490 mentioned 1000 yds. in the original post.
Copied - Are there any recommendations for a 6mm cartridge that would shoot well with a 1-14 twist barrel. This would be in a short action 308 bolt face and bullet recommendations and loads for target/br shooting from 100 to 1000 yards.
and I am pretty sure the answer is a solid NOJust as info:
