6mm ackley brass

Hello first time posting on here. Garrison smith here with a savage model 10 with Shilen 1-12 twist @28 long. Have made 7x57 Norma brass to 6mm ackley sizing down neck turning and fire forming. I’m not finding any more of this brass in stock anywhere. Seeing what other alternatives I can use. Any input would be great. Finding good 6mm remington brass isn’t going good also. I’m not sure if I can get let’s say 6.5-284 brass and neck down or even 284 win brass and neck it down to 6mm so I can get the correct trim length. Any input would be great.

Thanks for looking

You can make it out of .257 Roberts brass with a little effort -- has the same headspace as 7x57. Would then be long enough for trim length.

From post on 6mmbr.com from 2019 called “Forming 6 mm Remington brass from Norma 7x57 Mauser brass”. Shows these photos with explanations. Could use Lapua 30/06 brass which is readily available at this time

Haha you quoted my old post, I've since bought a wildcat shoulder set back die and bushing that are made by Paul Bike, a member here and avid shooter. Great die btw

I made some dummy rounds for a rifle that I am going to build my wife using 270 Win brass. I got the idea from this thread. After I got die progression and procudure right I was off to the races. I love this site!!! A 280AI on the left. A 7mm wildcat based off a 7saum case on the right. Dummy rounds in the middle.

Look in my first picture it's a die body with a set of inserts to gradually neck down the case and move the shoulder back

Does Paul let you decide the shoulder angle of the inserts or are they a standardized angle then fireformed? I have one of his barrel vices. He makes really good tools for damn sure!!!

My once fired WW 6mm ackley and 6mm have been sitting all bagged up for 25+ years now, thinking about shooting it again.Thinking of a fast twist prefit. What are you fellows getting for velocity, 105"s-115"s ?
What barrel length?

3350 with 105's from my 26" 1:8 Shilen. H4831SC

Is there any contact information for Pbike? It looks like he has not been on the site since 2008?
