Wondering if by chance anyone has experience with this caliber 6mm 30-40 krag could use some load info. thanks in advance.

It was popular when I was a kid. The folks who didn’t mind wildcats had access to mil-surp guns that were very cheap so it wasn’t as rare back in the 60’s with that crowd.
I think it faded as the supply of those carry-back and surplus guns faded, so I don’t hear about that design much any more.
I got to take a few shots and bagged a few woodchucks with one back then. It was fun to count fence posts for range and take a crack at that kind of shooting in an area that didn’t normally allow highpower hunting for game, but allowed this for varmint and pest controls. That was in NW Indiana when I was growing up.

If you have any experience with 30-40 in general, you already have a good idea of what the brass options are like. Mil-spec brass and commercial brass quality can vary so start collecting that up front so your prep work is worth while.

Had a 25/303 in the past. Common gun in Aussie. Liked Varget and 100g Sierra's. Very similar. Shot to low end 243 velocities and took a lot of goats. I would suggest bottom end 85g 243 loads with slower powders and work from there.

Barnes lists the .25 Krag under Wildcat an Proprietary Cartridges and describes it as one of the oldest wildcats. While the cartridge was popular it was too high pressure for the Krag action and was mostly chambered in custom built, single shot rifles.

I have a chance to pick up a Ruger #1 in this crazy caliber but I would have to buy it right in order to get my money back out of it pushing 70 years young. It very expensive to have a Ruger #1 re barreled
