6mm/30-30 Ackley Improved Help

Hi I was looking for some help with a new barrel I'm having made. I'm having Match Grade Machine build a Shilen 20 inch step full bull 6mm/30-30 AI 1-8 twist barrel for my Thompson Contender.
It will be my first attempt at a long range pistol set up.
I'm having Redding make me a form die and reloading dies. All I need now is some load data. I hope someone may have played with this and be able to offer some help.
I plan to shoot the 105 and heavier bullets.
Thanks, and thanks for such a wonderful site.
Steve.

I have a friend who has a Bellm barrel in that cartridge. I'll hit him up and see what he has. I think he typically shoots lighter bullets, but I'll ask.

I'll also ask where he gets his data.

May take a couple days.

Talked to my buddy. He said he has an Ackley book with data for your cartridge. He is going to let me borrow it. I'll get it Monday and let you know what says.

Thanks for the help.
I did talk to Bullberry already. Well by that I mean I looked at the web site. It gives information on lighter bullets.

hey just wondering if you or anyone might have pictures of such a round. some of the stuff people have come up with amazes me. good luck.

J, 30-30 brass has been used to wild cat for years in T/C's, the rimmed case is a plus when used as it provides easier case extraction.

Definitely true. In fact, all of the Contender wildcats I have played with headspaced off of the rim. You could literally set your die up and check headspacing with the barrel off of the frame.

I have a sample 6mm30-30AI coming with the PO Ackley book. I'll photo it tomorrow night and get it posted up.

Thanks Cornstalker.

I looked on line last night for the Ackley books, volume 1 and 2.
Could not find them at all. Going to start calling the gun shops and see what they might have.

Downtown, Here are some loads for you to try. I emailed you also. Remember to reduce these loads then workup to your max. CCI200 work with these, but you can use what you prefer as long as you work up slowly due to the ignition variations in primers.. Hope this helps :)

Next to it's parent case.

How close is that cartridge to a 6mm Dasher or other 6BR variant (in terms of size)? You me be able to get 32 to 35 grns of RL15 or Varget in there and launch the 105's at 2850+ with safe pressures. It looks like the case length is damn close to the same as a 6BR, but skinnier. The body length is bit longer than the dasher, but that fact that it's skinnier may put it pretty close to dasher capacity.

Disclaimer* THIS IS NOT A RECOMMENDED LOAD.... just throwing out an idea of where to start for load development. (Had to throw this in here)

Interesting cartridge...

That would be way too hot for this case, and too hot for a Contender.

That is a good looking cartridge with the sharp shoulders, compared to the parent! Will this one headspace off of the shoulder, or the rim? Case appears to have little to no taper, no issues for case stretch! Very nice!

Looks like I got a set of Redding dies coming and a Redding form die as well.
Still can't find 7-30 Waters brass.
That picture of the 6/30AI is cooool! ;D I can't wait for my barrel to be made.

If you are still looking for info on this cartridge, I picked up the Ackley books at a gunshow last weekend.
