6mm-250?? For precision rifle shooting, Sounds awesome!

Hey Guys, I am thinking about the 6mm-250. Basically just necking up 22-250 brass to 6mm.
What am I missing? It sounds super easy, and should feed from a magazine butter smooth. Velocity should be really close to the 6xc.

What would the pros and cons be??

Thanks for the help

Lots of body taper. I know a few guys who tried the 6-250 but eventually went to something else. Too much brass trimming, etc. However if you go with a 6-250AI brass life is excellent (at least mine has been). Of course you'll probably have to alter the feed lips in your magazine.

All that being said, there are similar cartridges that are more user-friendly. 6XC, 6x47 Lapua, 6 Creedmoor and the like.

I have not had to alter the feed lips on Rem 700's with 6/250 AI's and 22/250 AI's, nor Ruger 77 Tang safety.

6.5 Creedmoor case is 49mm or almost he same as 22/250 with 30 degree shoulder and large primer pocket. I like the 6X47L case myself. Lapua is to start offering 6.5 Creedmoor brass soon!

I didn't have to alter mine either but sometimes it's necessary. Probably just a matter of minor tolerance differences. Guess I should have said "possibly" instead of "probably".

A precision rifle does not have to be in a wildcat round. A good barrel chambered in 243 tight necked no turn chamber will give you the same accuracy as one chambered in 6-250 but you will still be able to shoot factory ammo in it and it will be easier to sell. I am a wildcatter and in 6mm load for the 6-45, 6-47 ( not L), 243, 6-284, and 6-300 WSM. A gun chambered in 6-250 I would buy, because it would sell for much less than you could build one, but I would never build one. But, that`s just me.

I shoot a 6mm250 in midrange matches. Its a Savage Model 12 whatever the single shot version was called.

I use WW 22-250 cases that I "upsize" to 6mm in 2-3 passes ( I use progressively larger expanders till I get to the correct neck size).

Im real happy with the gun and the 6mm250. I wanted something that was smaller than the .308 ( had been shooting Palma at the time I began looking for "something else") yet had more horsepower than the .223 out to 1k.

The availability of heavy 6mm bullets was a big plus. I use SMK107s, molied.

Recoil is very "pleasant".

Downside is finding affordable 22-250 cases. Ive had "issues" with the WW cases that I purchased maybe 10 years or so ago. I "understand" that WW was having quality control "issues" during tht time frame so that my explain my issues.

If I had to do it over again I'ld follow the same route.

Good luck.

I shoot a 250 AI, my only custom build. I would think a 6mm-250 Ackley Improved would be intriguing for your 1000 yds.

A departed hunting buddy left me a bunch of Nosler 22-250 cases. I had used WW 22-250 case fire-formed "bullet-less" for the 250 AI but the Noslers are on deck for a new batch. I like 22-250 for this since the smaller neck creates more body expanding pressure to my way of thinking, and any neck wall variance will be reduced a bit when expanded. And of course 250 Savage cases are harder to find, and not available in so-called "premium" grade.

I just can't get it out of my head that the 28 deg shoulder wont bite a guy in the butt compared to the xc or x47 case. Though you can't compare to a reg 22-250 with bullets at 3500fps+, you'll need a good charge to get to 3100 in 6mm and feel the heat will be there fast too.

Maybe not 100% on point to this evolved discussion, but if 22-250 brass is used to make XC, the cases will be a might short after forming.
I personally would not do it unless the taper was blown out and the neck sharpened. I also agree that 28° is an undesirable #.
