6mm-.250 keep or convert

ive got a tikka m595 mac tilton made for me in 6mm-.250 a “few” years ago prior to the introduction of all these new 6mm-whatevers

I am not shooting much if any highpower any more and am considering puting this barreled action in another stock more sutible for prs that will take 10rd magazines

Problem here is that after some consultation, its highly unlikely ill be able to get 6-250’s to feed all 10 rds due to the taper

- Has anyone had sucess getting 6-250 to feed in a 10rd magazine?

- the barrel is still almost new; i figure i could run a 6mm creedmoor reamer in and that would straighten out the case. Anyone see a reason this would not work

Alternatively i could just sell the whole rig to someone who still shoots highpowe and reparrel another rifle

Rechambering wouldn't be hard or particularly expensive, just have to wait for a gunsmith to do it.

6xc is basically your 6-250, blown out straighter. The 6 Creedmoor bumps the shoulder forward a little and yields a bit more speed. Either way, the smith will probably take a couple tenths off the end of the barrel/chamber before running the new reamer in and rethreading to set the headspacing, just to make sure that he can get it all in spec without having to deal too much with what the previous smith did.

I tried feeding 6-250 dummies into my .308 w aics mags ans they dont work past 5 in the magazine

I know performance between most of the 6???’s are mostly the same, the issue really is again: can i or do i run a 6mm creedmoore reamer into my 6-250 and keep going, i think i can even shoot 6mm-250 in a 6mm creedmoor to form new brass, or its just not worth it from a cost/ hastle point and i should consider a new barrel if i really want a 10rd m595

Rechamber or rebarrel to a 6x47L, 6 XC or 6 Creedmoor and start with new brass. It will save a lot of time and headaches attempting to reform your 6-250 brass.
Rechambering requires the barrel to be pulled, and you still have a used barrel.
STRONGLY consider installing a new barrel. The cost difference is not that much.
Save your 6-250 barrel if you may, at a later date, decide to reinstall it.....or put it up for sale on the classifieds.

IDK about the feeding from AI mags but one of my childhood shootin heros shot a 6mm International 40X and could make shots on crows and groundhogs that were past the range most people would even try back then,,at least where we grew up,,,I never saw him shoot it onpaper but he never missed anything he shot at with that rifle,,he had a Re 700 Varmint Special 6mm Rem and it couldnt shoot with the 6 International,,

First, the question no one has asked yet. What twist rate is your 6-250 barrel?
If your answer is 7.5 or 8 then maybe it is worth having the GS chamber to 6 Creedmoor (by the way a very good cartridge for PRS).
If you answer Q1 with proper twist then next consideration is barrel length and number of rounds down range. From my own experience in taking a 6 Dasher up to 6 Creedmoor I will say beware. As a 6 Creed reamer will go much deeper than the Dasher I felt all I had to do was "clean up" the old chamber. It was a terrible decision, as pressures went thru the roof with proven 6 Creedmoor loads. It was also blowing primers out 4 grains below that. The chamber end had to be cut off to resolve the issue, requiring the same amount of work that a GS would have to do on a NEW BLANK.
If you have a 26" barrel now then figure on losing the current tenon plus a 1/2" minimum and losing enough off the muzzle for a clean up and new crown. I'd say 2" of barrel/velocity loss and get ready to pay the GS as much as he would get for starting with a fresh blank (which I am sure he had rather do any way).

Thanks for the info; the juice is not worth it to rechamber the barrel It is a 26” 1-8 w less than 500 rds fired or so and is a hammer

Thanks for the advice on attempting to form 6mm creed brass from 6-250

Ill keep it for if and when i shoot hp again

Now ill have to decide if i put a 6mm creedmoor barrel on a r700 tube gun, an rpr or an ar-10

What brass are you using in your 6mm250?
