I have 22-250 brass necked to 6mm and 250 Savage reduced to 6mm and neckturned. They both work fine.I've sort of inherited this barrel/rifle. It's a beautiful custom gun. Bore scoped the barrel and it is almost new, with no wear.
I tried chambering 22-250 brass but could not close the bolt (figuring resizing it to 6mm.)
So reaching out to you all.. What brass does it take ??
Much thanks

YesRather than buy a box of 22-250 brass (which I do not shoot) I found some some range brass, I do not have an dies for 22-250 brass.. Should I try "new' unfired brass ?
I have both a 30br and 6ppc rifle neither will chamber a piece of brass without having the shoulder bumped back several thousandths first. And that includes after necking up which by itself shortens the brass a little. I think that’s par for the course with custom and or wildcat chambers. They’re on the smaller side when it comes to length. Try bumping the shoulder/resizing several thousandths until it fits that is I f the brass is too long. If the brass is too fat and is sticking while trying to chamber or extract you need a small base resizing die. Redding makes small base dies.I'm in the same boat, I recently put money down on a 700 barreled in 6x250. A standard 22-250 case wouldn't chamber.
If your barrel is like a few of my wildcat chambered barrels the brass new or used isn’t going to chamber without being shorten by necking up first then by running a piece of brass through a resizing die and bumping the shoulder back. Just out of curiosity I measured a piece of lapua 22-250 brass with calipers neck to base and zeroed the calipers to the brass then I ran that same piece of 22-250 brass up on a Wilson .242 neck mandrel necking it up to 6mm. Then stuck the brass back in the calipers that were zeroed from before necking it up to 6mm and the brass shortened .0095 thousandths. That by itself would probably take care of your not being able to chamber the brass problem. If not then you’d have to get a sizing die that doesn’t do the neck of the brass like a Redding body die for 22-250 and bump the shoulder back even more. Do it in .002 increments till it fit. If the brass is also too fat get the Redding small base body die instead. Or if you want to do the neck at the same time while reloading you’d have to find a die that’s an actual 6mm-250 die which might be difficult to find I’m not sure about that though.Rather than buy a box of 22-250 brass (which I do not shoot) I found some some range brass, I do not have an dies for 22-250 brass.. Should I try "new' unfired brass ?
Reviving this, I finally got my new to me rifle home chambered in 6x250 and scoped the barrel, it looks to be pretty low mileage.
Where can I find dies? I've been scouring the web with no luck. Even just a body die and I can scrounge up a Lee collet neck die (with 6mm mandrel). I still need brass, but the dies are going to be more difficult to find.
