105gr amax out of an Impala Ram last week, 180y bullet went through shoulder and stopped on opposite shoulder. 243 with a muzzle velocity of 2990fps
They blow up rock chucks good.......![]()
Went out prairie dog hunting last month and shot with a friend who was using the 105 A_MAX in his 6BR. I was using the 105 Hybrid and the 108 BT's in my 6-47l and Dashers. His results on PD's with the A-MAX was MUCH more explosive then mine with bergers....and I was at least 200 FPS faster across the board.
They all were MOPD!!
I've found reasonable success with 105 A-MAX loaded .020" off the lands (2.769" OAL) and they still fit in the standard PMAG that comes with the RPR. Loaded w/ 46.2gn of H1000 I was getting around 2920fps and 5 shot groups that were +/- .75MOA on average. The only other bullet I have tried are 115gn DTAC's and those shoot right at around .5MOA or better but need to be loaded long which necessitates the ACIS style magazines. How far off the lands do you load the 105 Amax? I have not tried them touching or into the lands because of magazine restrictions, has anyone else? I'm considering a ACIS magazine for my RPR to solve that problem, but not excited to unless it helps. 105 Berger Hybrids certainly shoot more consistently for me at 0.030 off than the Amax's which seems to be their best depth I've tried.
Thanks in advance!

Just a report:
95 gr Berger Hunting VLD are making one hole groups at 200 with Varget and my McGowan 18 inch bull barrel. Using Varget for the short barrel and just touching the lands. Have not fooled with OAL, no need! 35.8 to 36.8 are doing about the same thing, with no pressure signs. Going to try 105 A-Max today....... if the wind stops.
I have a new theory: Since after 2 shots the group never gets smaller, I am using 2 rounds and if they touch at 200, I load 5 more and use the same target. With the 6x47L, I load in increments of .3 grains and look at vertical and location on target..... separate target for each load. Works better for me than ladder testing.
