6GT barrel contour

I am trying to put together a 6GT for target shooting. It will be off the bench and prone. I am thinking of the MTU in 24". The only reason I like the MTU is because of the weight.

From your experience, is the 24" MTU good choice? Is there anything else I should consider besides the weight?

TIA.

MTU or Heavy Varmint or “Proof Competition” profile are all I use now. But I go 28” for better balance for PRS games

Imost likely I won't be doing PRS games and second I'm trying to keep it at 24" (plus the break) so I can use an existing rifle case. Although 24" is not set in stone.

Roger. You can fit a heavy varmint in that chassis. I think a 24-26 MTU/M24 will balance really well in that chassis (I have one, ugly sum-bitch but it shoots nice)

No reason not to go heavy varmint if it will fit. Assuming you won't be hiking with it. That said, an MTU would shoot very well also. Which one fits the barrel channel the best?

I think I've got (currently): (3) M24, (1) MTU, and (1) heavy varmint...plus a couple others.

What I know from my experience is that a 26" M24 balances at about the same point on the stock/chassis as a 24" MTU or HV. Of course nowadays so many people use weights to change that center of balance, so it is basically a moot point.

One of the things I like best about the M24 is that it is more frequently available from the distributors that I buy from - avoiding the wait of placing an order.

Thanks for the replies. More than likely I will go with a 26" heavy varmint now.
