6GT and R23

Have a bunch of Reloader 23 and a couple new 6 GT barrels on the way. I know R23 is likely a bit slow but just checking to see if anyone has tried it in their 6GT with 103-108 gr bullets.

Thanks

Rich

Wouldn't think you could get enough in the case to do much with it.

Slowest I've seen guys use is H4350.

I'll be using N540 or H4350 out of mine.

Why I went 6 GT because I already have 2 kegs of N540 and 2 kegs of H4350 on shelf, along with about 2K 108 ELDMs, over 10K SR primers, and 100 Peterson cases. Pretty much already have everything I need besides a Bartlein #3b 7.5 twist barrel and some dies.

I'm in the same boat. trying to use what powders I already have. I have decided to go with RL16. Seems like there is not much room in the case or they are not favored with some powders I already have , except RL16.

I did velocity/pressure test with several powders in the GT last summer including RL 16

I haven't handled any RL 23 in more than a few years and don't remember if it's bulkier than 16 or not.

There's a lot of room in the GT case and it might be possible.

Some data, says I got some mild lift at 2950 ish

Not sure that wasn't maybe some humidity or the chamber getting warm.

Thank you very much. That is exactly what I was looking for. Looks like plenty of wiggle room.

If I were to revisit it I'd look around 2850 fps first. I've seen too many 6 GT barrels/guns shoot lights out there.

@Jet I don't know that a guy could get enough RL 23 in one to get in the mid 2900 on up range but I bet the 2850 node is runnable.

Most people can't run that slow though LOL primer pockets and barrels last too long, trace is too easy to watch etc

That's what I was thinking also. More practicable. Plus accuracy in the long run.

Doesn't the Hornady Match 109 ELDM load shoot 2850fps? If so, there's probably a good reason for it.

Thats a pretty slow powder for that case, definitely do some primer testing. It was equal to 4831 in my 308 based chambers. Its also a PITA to trickle as kernels are all over the place as far as size goes.
