6CM testing Results

Now that the 6CM has been around a while, how has it been doing in competition?
What all Benchrest matches has it won?
What all FClass matches has it won?
Has it set any records?

I can document this as the latest I know of
Joe Hendricks 2014 NRA National High Power Rifle National Champion

Looks like that 6CM did you well again.

Hi Guys,
I have 351 pieces of Winchester brass fire formed as a 6 Competition Match. It has been fire formed only. It is for sale in the Marketplace section.

Joe

Just an update. My oldest 6CM barrel has over 4,400 rounds on it.

I am still shooting 49 gns of H-1000 under coated 115s.

It still holds under 3/4 MOA and is able to hit a 3x3 steel plate at 300 yards 8 out of 10 times. Granted one miss was off shooting sticks and the other was unsupported sitting.

Hey fellas I have a question. I've been shooting my 6 comp match now for almost a year. Everything is great. Its the most accurate gun I've even owned. The action is a PGWDTI Coyote. Made in Canada. Its an amazing rifle.
However this last outing I've ran into a problem on some brass that I've had 3-4 firings on. The brass is cracking around the casing about a 1/4" above the web. A couple have cracked right through. Others have a tiny crease and are clearly heading in that direction. Any ideas? I bump them 2 thou max but I do use FL dies with a bushing to resize. My load is 48.5 gr of H1000 and it gives me 3175 with the 105 Hyb. I have not annealed anything as of yet.

Sounds like you might be bumping more than .002

Or on your initial fireform you had excessive headspace. Thats why I neck up to 6.5 then back down to 6mm until I can just barely close the bolt making a false shoulder.

Hoser is right. If you fire formed properly then your die is set up improperly. You are moving the shoulder back to much causing a thinning of the case above the web where your seeing a line or crack. This will eventually cause headcase separation. Set your die with .002 bump. Check all your brass that for potential headcase separation.

What primers are you guys getting better results with using H1000? 215 or 210’s. Still trying to get my CM to shoot consistently and haven’t found much info while searching.

Does the Redding 243 Egolf improved fl die work with Norma/lapua brass fired in a lapua chamber?

Are there solid gains in velocity from barrels longer than 28”. I saw where joesr said there was not much to be gained. Does anyone have any other data on that?

Thanks,
Donald

I just got two new 6CM barrels spun up for my Accuracy International rifles by Fritz at Mile High Shooting Accessories. The large frame PSR got an 8 twist Bartlien and my small frame AXMC got an 8 twist Kreiger. Both finished right around 28 inches.

I took the AXMC out yesterday, got a rough zero on a 620 yard 12 inch plate and dialed up to my old dope on an 18 inch 1050 yard plate. Adjusted a few clicks and then went 4-5.

Money well spent instead of changing calibers chasing the latest and greatest 6mmSomething and starting over.

I read through most of this thread. I am still trying to figure out how improving a 243 increases the barrel life over a standard 243 ( I still can't figure how a 6CM is not a 243A). I mean, every time I mention I am working on 243 for long range I am told the barrel will burn up in 1000 rounds, and here people are saying they are getting 4000 rounds on an ever hotter version of the same cartridge.

From my 28" to my 30" same load netted me 40-50 fps.

Hey Donnie,
Running H1000 and cleaning as directed by Joe, with 115 DTACS didn't you get 4,000 rounds with at least 1/2 MOA accuracy out of your last barrel?

Yes I did... Matter of fact that 5 shot group at 100 yards that you pulled for me was at close to 4100 rounds. It was still under 1/2".

According to several charts I looked at N160 is not cooler burning than H1000. It is actually closer to H4350 than it is to H1000.
