6CM Case Life and Trimming

A couple of questions for 6CM shooters:

What sort of case life are you getting with 115DTACs @ 3000fps+?

How much case length trimming is required each firing?

Thanks.

I have been shooting the 6CM for about 2 years now and all of my brass is still being used.

I do trim every time I load, but that is more of a habit than required. Most cases just touch the trimmer.

I would guess that you can fire the 6CM for 4 or 5 firings before trimming.

On how long the cases last...I guess 10 to 20 firings.

Thanks Joe.

I can't think of any other reasons not to try the 6CM so it's time to take a leap of faith into the not so unknown.

i have 6 on this batch of brass with the 6th being today i hav'nt trimmed it yet but i think ill have to trim it this time. By the way it shot great today i wasnt paying attention on the 2nd relay and lost it no falt of the gun and shot a 193 with 9. On the 3rd relay i shot a 200 wit 14 at 600. The 193 was me the wind changed and pick up i didnt get it

On my 9th reload of lapua, have 3780 rounds, OAL moved back .028 from new, still shoots 115 DTAC's at 3100 fps with 49.5 gns of H1000, still shoots .5 MOA. This 6cm really sucks.....I wish I had a better picture of the case......should I try H4350?

ill take if off you hands if if sucks shooting 1/2 inch after 3700. I have 3 on order 2 bats and a savage. The one im shooting now is not for sale unless you have a big pocket book. Between me and my shooting buddy shooting at 600yds we hav'nt lost yet. Call me ill take it off your hands lol but i suspect yull keep it

I really don't see it as a "leap of faith". It's a cartridge that's out there, guys are shooting it, and the way it is set up and designed, there's about zero risk you won't have a rifle that shoots well and offers up great accurate velocities. The absolute worst that could happen is you would need to set your barrel back a half inch and rechamber it to something else.

The 6CM chamber max is 2.055". For me that means a trim length of somewhere around 2.040" and never let the cases go beyond about 2.050". Some people use .020" less than chamber max as a trim length and .010" less than chamber max as a case max, in which case 2.035" would be a good trim length with a case max of 2.045". I don't know that it makes a big difference, just as long as you don't let your cases get too long or way too short.

This was a good thread. My original 6CM has over 3600 down it and still capable of under .2 at 100 yards. My first 150 Win. cases have 18-19 firings on them. They have been trimmed 3 times to a lenght of 2.036. I only shoot them here and there when playing. I have newer brass for comp.
