6x47 vs 6 COmpetition match

I have read a lot of good info on the 6CM. I am torn between the 6x47 and the 6CM. For the people who has had the 6CM, what barrel life did you get, what velocity, what bullet, and what powder?

Also, what is your case prep?

Ballistics very similar with the 6 Creed getting the nod for a little higher velocity due to case capacity difference.

Barrel life should be about the same. I wore out 6x47 in 1400 rounds. I expect about the same with my 6 Creed.
I use Lapua 6.5 Creedmoor brass. Run it through a 6 Creed F/L sizing die.

Do a search for posts from member joesr. Great information.

I am in need of some info for the 6CM.
I have looked up powder and bullets and such. I seen a few posts where to benifit, I would need a certain powder/bullet combo. 115s and H1000.

My question is, where would I obtain a reamer? What are the best dies? Could I use Lapua brass with out turning and such?

Thank you for your time.

I purchased my reamer from JGS, problem is if you ask them for a Comp Match reamer they didn't name it that way. PTG also has reamer prints available if you want to go that route. I even think Long Rifles Inc may have a print or two on their site with a good write up on the 6CM. However, if you want a copy of mine I will be more than happy to email it to you. I have been using Lapua brass but with the neck diameter of my reamer I felt it was too tight so I ended up neck turning the brass I have. If you are going to order a reamer then you would just spec a slightly larger neck for no turn.
I am using the sizing die from Long Rifles Inc. Works well and takes the Redding bushings. I use a standard 243 seating die.

Are there any places to rent the reamer? I don’t really care about turning necks. I’d rather not, but I don’t have 8 weeks to wait for PT&G. Lol

Dave Bruno made my first die, excellent die and he may still make them upon request. I also have one that Redding makes. Chad Dixon also makes an excellent one. I believe Teele1 has posted the reamers prints on here. I may even have them stored in my email. My 4th barrel Dave chambered with the reamer for Lapua brass with a .104 freebore for 105's. I haven't shot this barrel yet, but may extend it for the DTAC that I have normally shot in them.

Shouldn't need extending. You should have plenty of room with 104 FB. That is the freebore required for a Dasher that has a much shorter neck to shoot 105s.

It's a catch22.

The brass life of x47L brass is crazy, especially with custom dies and minimum expansion. Going on 11 years now for me and pockets are still tight with 35-36 firings. I smile every time I cycle the brass! But I am disappointing come new barrel time.
6x47L - If you use Varget you'll only use 37 or so grains of powder. Average round count for sub moa for me is 1800 but you'll be adding some powder and chasing lands beforehand. When my barrels have gone, they went quick, quick like in the next day at a two day match.

Not sure on brass life of 6CM. 50 grains of powder - H1000?? I'm curious what the average round count would be and if a set back is worth it for this cartridge.

Barrels get firecracked pretty bad and deep with 6x47L. To get 3100 fps requires a longer barrel and higher pressure to attain. The cases can handle higher pressure no problem but throat and barrel suffers. IMO a set back wouldn't be worth doing for 6x47.

I've never been able to resist running 6x47 hard but in my mind I know that 100 fps less is only a click more windage to account for at 1000Y.

I might just go the opposite way and go back to 6mmBR for practice and fun, then put the 6x47L barrel for matches.

Thanks for the info.

Steve123, have your tried any other powder, slower burning?

Many of slower powders are a little bulky for the 47 case and seating depth inconsistencies arise due to compressed loads.

Keep in mind the reamer I use has a long free bore/.208".

Yes I have.

H1000 wouldn't work, can't get enough in the case, slow fps and poor ES.

H4831SC is what I use now, it's a lot of powder/43.2 grains with a 105 hybrid at 3172 fps.

H4350 works fine, I used 39.9 grains/105 for a few jugs. I quit using it because it was a pain to find.

N160 was good too but it was expensive and temp sensitive.

R17, you can really get high FPS! but it's temp sensitive. When this powder first came out I got 3250 fps/105 in a 29" barrel.

I haven't used Varget much. I prefer I high load density which it doesn't provide with 6mm heavies and at the time it was hard to find as well.

In reality, I want to shoot 105s-115s at 3000fps and at least 2000 rounds for the season. As long as I have good ES and SD, I’m ok with going slower.

Any of the BR improved cases will do 3,000 or close to it with a 105. Should last close to 2,000 rounds as well. YMMV.

I was really on the fence with the Lapua or the comp match. I was dreading thinking about fire forming brass. Some of the guys I know are getting great life out of the comp brass. I know many are getting close to 3k rounds out of the comp barrel, seems like 1500 is average on the Lapua. I do love my Lapua, it was easy to load for 34.5g of 4451 and 105 hybrids and it's happy. Or some 87g vmaxs to pop varmints.

I have both 6-47 Lapua and 6 Competition Match. In my experience, the 6CM achieved higher velocities and was far easier to tune...by a lot. Expense wise 6CM has a slight advantage if you use Winchester brass but, you’ll be using about 10 more grains of powder per shot.

Overall, my vote goes to the 6CM.

Dave Bruno built my 6x47 and it runs circles around my buddies 6CM. Load development was fairly easy, however I did notice that my 6x47 was a little more sensitive to seating depth with the 105 Hybrids compared to my other guns. But it hammers.
