6BRA Varget load data?

Test/Tune Day.
Ben got the "Pit Fuel" together pretty good today, in unexpectedly Bad Mirage. He Grouped well at 500m, with his new Taylor rifle.
It was a struggle to see 6mm holes past 300, but at 600, nobody could make out 30 holes with NF Comps, or a K1050.
New Shooter at the table...

Varget will make the holes easier to see past 300, like burning coal....... lol..... jim

It was a good day shooting with great friends. So can’t wait for the first low mirage day.

Good job guys any day at the range is a great day.

Just starting load Development, I know a lot of folks are getting great results with H4895 but I have about 10 lbs of Varget to use so I’ll be using that with berger 105 hybrids just touching. Any help with a starting point would be greatly appreciated. New to the forum first post. Thanks all

With a 103 Vapor trail 32.0 gives 2990 and 31.2 gives 2940. My barrel likes the 103's jammed 6 and 31.2.

Pat, It's a 26.5". Started as a 28 and I rechambered to a 6BRA. 1-7.75 Brux.

I put over 300 thru it with H4895 and never had anything to brag about, Varget seems to shoot better for me.

My feels also. Not sure yet but I did about 600 rds with H4895. Pretty much gave up on the Krieger when I tried Varget on a whim. Pretty dramatic difference form initial testing. Hope to test again and learned a lesson.

That lesson is to stop beating and beating a "dead horse" and go with something else. This is the second barrel I have shot upwards of 500 rds. through before changing or quitting. Now, even if I do confirm that Varget is the answer, the barrel life has severely been lessened or is already over for best shooting.

It is hard to know just when to "pull the plug" on a barrel.

Hi Captain, lessened is a good way to describe a barrel that has been shot a lot testing loads or shooting small groups.

Very nice Stan, getting closer to the start of the season

FYI...Tested 32.0 gr. of Varget yesterday with Bart's 105's. 2940 fps on a cool morning. Little vertical at 600 but the wind was brutal for getting a feel for the horizontal. Loading 45 of them to try in the IBS match tomorrow. Kind of surprised at such a low velocity with a 28" bbl. That's about the same as my 108 Bergers with 31.1 gr. of H4895. MUST use 450's as the 400's blank. BR4's do work but offer no change I can see.

It was in the 50's temperature wise yesterday. Not sure what affect that had on the velocities. You asked, I answered.

Well Ben got a quick chance this evening to try those Barts at about best I can measure about 6 to 8 thousands off 32.4 of R15 at 2930ish es of 17 fps at 125yds 5 shot group looks promising.

I did a test with 2208/varget with 105 hybrids .015 jump, cc 450. 28inch kreiger 1:7.5 twist with Labradar in western Australia. wind came in and had a little mirage so I shot at 200m . got 3000fps with 32gr
all charges loaded with fx 120i
