6BRA sizing die

I called Harrel's and ordered the 6BRA sizer bushing die with the 3 thou under base. Which is what they said Alex Wheeler usually ordered. (2.5 to 3 thou)

I use Wilson seaters. Do you order the Wilson?

Harrell’s asked me to send a couple of cases that had been fired three times in my chamber so they could give me the best match. Now I’ve gotta figure out how to neck size them in between firing.

I ended up chosing a Forster BR seating die. Playing around with some dummy rounds it seems to work pretty good.

You won't have to worry about sizing the body/shoulder/web for the first 3 firings. Just use plenty of lube on the lugs if the cases are a little tight. Tight is good..you want these cases totally blown out for Harrells.

The problem you will have is neck tension IF you want to jam these. The best way to solve that problem is to lube a bushing that will give you .001 tension, and you can square it to the case mouth and gently tap it half way down the neck. Pliers are your friend to carefully take it off straight.
This certainly is not perfect, but this is what Lynwood will tell you to do.

All you do is lube up the neck, take a bushing and slide it over the neck, then pull it off. Load and shoot. Then repeat.

That is a bunch, .003 sizing on the base ??? I size .0005 on the base and .001 on the shoulder. jim

It doesn't mean you are sizing your particular case .003". It is just how they define their various sizes of dies. You have to know your chamber size to pick the right one or let them pick the right one for you by sending them fired cases.

I know this, had a reamer specs to the Harrells #3 Dasher die, but that is what the man said .... .003. He would be better of firing a case 3 times without sizing it and send them to Harrells .... jim

Correct. It's just a number to determine what reamer you used to cut the chamber. Not how much you resize. That's what the man said on the phone, go ahead and pick my words... I never said I plan to size 3 thou.

I think you need to reread your post you said you ordered a .003 under base???? not a #3 die .... jim

.003 under what? you need to know what your chamber is first at the .200 line. Reamers aren't on the money all the time either. I would send fired brass in to Harrells, but he is a good guy and if you get the wrong one he will exchange it. unless you screw it up.... jim

Send a once fired case and if you have your reamer drawing (that’s what I did) to Warner Tool.

You have to buy they’re die body also the first time around but it will come with a bushing to size your case.

After that you can use the same die body and have new bushings made for different calibers/chambers.

Very nice is the only thing I can say!

Really its just .003 under some size harrels calls standard which may be way different than what his reamer cuts

Im trying to understand this, and I do appreciate the feedback, but not directing this at anyone in particular, but I would not understand "way different" ? I mean... This isn't exactly a crazy wildcat at this point. These guys have made a few reamers (JGS) and dies (HARRELS) for the 6Bra for Lapua brass. I think it's pretty standard at this point.

I'll tell you this much the poor guy I talked too on the phone was pretty adamant that some people get pretty upset over this stuff...

I assured him I was not that guy.

I'm sure I will figure it out. He told me what Alex orders, I'm using his reamer, so I'm sure that will work. I mean how have we managed so far with factory sizing dies? I use Redding dies and so far I have never had to send anyone a case after I fired it to buy a die. I would rather size a bit small every time actually so I went to the full 3 thou under their zero which is what Alex uses (2.5 to 3).

And how would I size a case for a caliber I don't have? So, I could get my three firings? Pretty crazy. I just want a die.

I agree. The work has been done and we know how much sizing needs to happen and the spring back that has to be accounted for.

If everyone had reamers made to work with an off the shelf die, the custom die industry would mostly cease. There are examples of why someone wants to try something different or that something else works better with their virgin brass, for example....or maybe they just like the look and feel of a custom made die. Overall, a die is a very simple device, intended to do a very simple job and brass is only virgin once. That's not even a real worry often but is a factor because of primer pocket expansion if you allow virgin brass to expand excessively. Not a factor within reason, even for BR quality work and fitment.

Again, I like the .003 under recommendation.
This is a subject that doesn't get much discussion but is a very good topic.
There is still something to be learned about the many cartridge load combinations and when "clickers" appear wit very specific dimensions in this specific area...and with or without annealing. Of course annealing should never affect the brass at the base except when they make it.

A Harrell's D3 with .085" cut off the bottom works very well with the BRA#1 reamer. Even a D3.5 is ok in my book. A D2.5 may get you clickers after a while of use. Just check your before and after sizing numbers. .0015-.002 at the shoulder and .0005-.001" at .2" is what I like to see for diameter reduction. And .003" under chamber is about right. I have had to go even smaller on big cases.
