6BRA load data

It reads BRA, and it is. Several I know are shooting in the mid 33s and doing well. All set ups are different. Lapua brass .
And I'm not saying people aren't, I am saying, the brass and 40 degree shoulder are masking the pressure, just like the Sherman wildcats. You literally can't put 32.5+ grains in a case that doesn't hold even a full grain more h2o that a straight BR, and say it's not high pressure. Depending on lot strength, you could lock a bolt up, with 109s and 31.5grns in a BR, so another 1-2grns is 80k psi.

When I got to 33.5 I started to get a bit of bolt lift resistence. 32.9 33.0 33.1 all shot together group wise so I picked the low pressure version. I don't get your point. If your not comfortable shooting there, don't. At 2800 it shot in a tiny hole but I want more and still a small hole. So now at 2940 I still feel a bit puny after many years of 6BRX at 2990.

Thats a really slow lot of powder or barrel. I've shot several different lots of varget in a Bra and never seen it that slow. My current lot is 31.4 and a 105 and it's 2940ish. Last lot was 32.1 and 2960 all in 28 inch barrels. 32.1 in New lot is around 3000 fps.

What barrel?

If you're not happy with 2800s use a longer barrel, different powder, or different cartridge. I'm sorry but if you have bolt lift at 33.5, that's probably 82k psi, a half grain less with Varget is typically 4-6k psi depending on the cartridge. I like to run things fast too, my 30" 6GT takes 105s to 3200, with Staball 6.5 and is actually within published data, not that I'm afraid to exceed it on occasion, I did go to 3260, still no pressure, but accuracy was shit. And I know it's safe because I can get 3150 from a 23" barrel with no pressure and the same combo. The short version would be, I like running things hard, but not to the point of some debris or moisture locking the bolt up, or the random carbon ring spike, that might eject the bolt out the ass end of the action, because I like my face intact, more than velocity.

I shoot mine at 2930. I would’ve liked more velocity but I was getting heavy bolt lifts. I find that prioritizing an accurate load with a wide node is worth more points than the extra velocity anyways.

Would like to see how many firings you get on that brass. When I went north of 3000fps the primer pockets loosened up between 4-6 firings. Back down in the 2900's now for me.
My thoughts exactly. I have Peterson 6BR brass that now has over 15 loads on it {SS pin wet cleaned and annealed @ time} and haven’t lost a case to primer pocket failure running 30.1gr of Varget/AR2208, CCI450’s with 107’s running at 2’850fps.

A couple powder ladders with different bushings and one seating ladder from last week in preparation for our upcoming nationals.
This barrel seems to like Varget so that’s what I’m feeding it.
All testing is at 1000 yards, I’m hoping to be competitive.

What neck tension do you use to achieve a trustworthy and repeatable jam of .024? IOW, what is the chamber neck OD if you are using a .261 bushing?
Thanks

My lastest barrel seems to be preferring varget as well and same area as yours.

I have a .268 neck with a .265 loaded round, a .261 bushing applies .004 bullet hold that maintains depth and if I need to eject a round I’m ok, It will shoot on a .260 but not much better.

I shot the Atips and Berger 105 and 109 Hybrids at 500 yards. I like the extra velocity with the Atip and the retained velocity of the 109 and the Atip but the 109 load with N150 had an SD of 2.3 and ES of 7 fps for 7 shots, 1/2 MOA group from a sling and 5X's when I got it dialed in... Not mad at the Atips, Just not wanting to pay that per bullet price.

Trying to link to thread where I posted images... Ill just copy it here...

Latest follow up. I have been shooting the 109 Hybrids with N150 at 2840 for long range and the 105’s for mid range. As another Wrinkle, I had a small batch of 110 Atip. Found these to like 31.0 of Varget at 2900 fps. All will group 3-5 shots into 0.3-0.5 moa from the bench and will clean the target with me being the weak link from the sling.

So - today I had a chance to shoot all three loads from a sling at 500 yards in the same condition. Interesting but expected results.

105’s at 2893 SD 7.7 with H4895, xRing sized group ( 1 moa ) with 2065 fps at the target. 8 shot group.

109’s at 2830 with N150. SD 2.3 sighters well out but dropped 5 X in under 1/2 moa. 2069 at the target.

110 Atip. Have not done a full jump test with this one but it shot 0.4 moa with 0.020”off ( and the bullets cost too much to spend a lot of time playing with them ) Varget load 2901 fps 7.4 SD 2” tall 5” wide 8 shot group. Velo at target …2135.

I like the added retained velocity of the 109/110 particularly for long range. The N150 just give outstanding performance with consistent velocity.

I think the answer is I am the weak link in any of these loads, points lost are mine and not the load or equipment.
