6BRA load data

This barrel seems faster than my 2 Kriegers for sure. @ 31.6 H4895 I begin to feel a little stiffness in bolt and more so @ 31.8. Also slight cratering. I dont want my load to be up there.
I like the 30.1 and the 31.0 areas. The higher charges are doing funky things

Could be a slight difference between the pro chrono and the magneto speeds being recorded I suppose.
If you shot that again using a different primer they may look totally different.
All I've ever used in the past are 450s w/ 31.4-31.6 Varget in my kriegers but just can't get it to shoot as small as guys shooting 4895. I have 400s, 205m and wolf smr (which I'm told are near same as 450s). I'll give them a try, thanks.

My 6BRAI Lederer acted the same as yours, it didn't speed up after the 1st few rounds. I agree with Glenn on what powder weight to use. If you have any 8208 XBR give that a try.

Good Shooting

Rich

Does your barrel seem to run a little faster than the Kreigers? I do have a new jug of 8208, what primers you find best? Also this barrel seems to like a jump vs. jamb. Thats a first for me. Thanks, Barry.

You can get the BRA to run well over 3000 fps. Its all in the bore volume. I have been playing with bore/groove specs and have barrels that wont pressure out until almost 3100 fps. A tight barrel will not make it to 3k fps. Tom Mousel ran one of those barrels all year in LG and I think his node was around 3040-3050 with a 103 and H4895.

I like your +.005 ladder better. Id shoot around 30.1 vs 31.1 and see which node holds up better.
That's exactly what I loaded up last night to test today along with a second group of 3 with 205m primers to test against 450s, but wind would not allow testing today. @Alex Wheeler are the 9th and 10th rounds on both jumped and jambed tests low because the barrel muzzle topped out and was headed back down (positive compensation)?Thanks, Barry.

at that velocity, I would be making new brass every three firings.
I bought 4 boxes of Lapua 6br cases 8 years ago, fully match prepped them and weight sorted them into 5 sets of 70 (I shoot all 70 at every match). They have 8 to 9 firings each now and about half way back I turned the necks and fireformed them into 6BRA (as I previously shot a no-turn 6br). I anneal necks and shoulders after every firing. They have been exposed to pressure numerous times (not by choice it just shows up testing and when temps get unexpectedly hot) and have never got a single loose primer pocket, split neck or shoulder. They are still going strong, knock on wood, and I will just keep shooting them until they start having problems then I will buy 400 more and start all over again. Barry.

PC is when the barrel harmonics work in your favor by allowing a good amount of ES to have little to no effect on vertical dispersion. In the case of your top charges the barrel was pointing much lower in its harmonic pattern, you could say its over compensating on the top end.

Its about 20FPS slower than a 8 twist Krieger I'm shooting. My current lot of H4895 is faster than any previous lots I've used.

Same as you. 29.9gr with your 103 Hammers gets 2930fps out of a 29" barrel.

Does anyone have any feedback on H4895 lot # 5825

A little, looks promising. These are at 600.
Business has kept me away from any matches since the 600 Nationals but I might get one more in before freeze up.

That's the second time it's shot small at 30.5 with the 105 Carpenters and 400s

@DHuffman
(your) 30.5 certainly has promise, I have I believe 5 lbs of lot number. Im definitely more comfortable with this lot vs my other one that kinda went nuclear on me.

@SPJ

Here's the first time I tested it. They were a couple weeks apart.

I’m not quite getting the speed with the 108 s but the small is there, I’ll stretch it out hopefully next week.

The small is all that matters, my Borden BRA and Lilja barrel likes running down in the upper 2800s.

@SPJ

I think lot 5825 is a good one. This is a 1K ladder test. I settled on 30.54 grains, 2,960 fps, in a Krieger barrel with Vapor Trails. This barrel likes to run in between the common nodes which are usually 2,920 and 3,010 fps. Velocities on target are 15 feet in front of barrel so add 10-15 fps.

As a side note, lot 7076 runs at the same velocity and is interchangeable from what I have seen.

Dave.
