6BRA load data

all these loads in the BR Imp. with H4895 mean very little unless you know the lot number... 31.1 gr. Lot# 7076 gives me 2976 in one barrel and 2998 with Barts 105 in the other Lederer. ... jim
True, the really consistent shooters treat every barrel with a true full load work up and the results show. Im just giving guys a place to start that I have seen as an average over hundreds of barrels.

The variance in lot to lot with H4895 and H 4350 is scary, I have a lot of H4350 I can use in the BR Imp. and get 2920 with a 110 and it shoots small, I could never get it to work in the Dasher..... Lot difference in powder lots and barrels..... jim

I have gone back and studied your targets some more. Thanks for sharing. It looks like the group was coming apart at 30.4 +9, even though it shot well at 29.8, 30 and 30.2. at +9.
Do you think the high shot at 30.4 was an anomaly? Trying to understand why you went to 30.4 instead of 30 like Alex suggested and made a .001 seating depth adjustment.

I look at each barrel as if it’s something completely different than the last one because usually they are. I have seen barrels chambered with the same reamer show a preference for a different bullet and also a different powder charge to be in the same “node”. While I have been able to demonstrate the normal low and high nodes around 2,935 and 3,010, I have another barrel that has shot screamers with 30.54 grain charges of Lot 7076 H4895 and a Vapor Trail at 2,970 right in between the common nodes.

I establish bullet preference and seating depth during break in. Then after the barrel settles down I do a powder ladder at the longest distance I have available. For me that is 1K. Things jump out at you the further out you test. Sometimes it takes two overlapping ladders to explore the complete operating range of the cartridge without overheating the barrel(I shoot .1 grain increments). By the way .1 grain is good for 1.5”-2” of elevation at 1K.

Dave.

Don’t get wrapped up by “the load”. Look at the velocity. The gun shoots it’s best pretty much at 2930 to 2940. By moving the seating depth just a hair the load window got larger, so from 2882 to 2970 the gun did nothing stupid. I will try and keep the velocity in the sweet spot regardless of what load it takes.

All this is only a given at a temperature as it moves so does your load and a 20 degree swing you may need .2 just to get back to the same velocity .... jim

Be careful with the Hybrids, Lot to lot on the diameter at the pressure ring the can be all over the place. had them under .2430 to .2440. check your loaded round to make sure you have .002 to .003 clearance .....
It is a good idea to have a Labradar so you know what your doings far as velocity and ES........ jim

What?

I do believe those 2 are similar, and tend to build pressure a little sooner. Not that that means a damn thing, accuracy wins. But you will likely see a 105 vld or 103 vapor trail run up a little more.
Alex as we know there are similarity's between hunter 106 or 103 really and 103 hammers but it is my finding that hunters will often have a lower working pressure range of which does not equate to lesser targets , but the 103 Hammer will handle very much like a hand made vapor in regard to there pressure ceiling being higher. the 103 hammer will develop velocity at a slower rate until the top usable capacity then it will come full on.. the hunters and Hammers develop ladders very differently both good but different..

Good input, I have not shot the Hammer yet. Thats really interesting they act differently... I really should order some up, they look really good from what I have seen.

Alex, I shot my 2nd best 6 target agg season ever in 1000 yard IBS heavy gun 2020 season using the 103 Hammer start to finish and even a 1 target personal best. I'm actually glad all these bullets handle different when considering what I will have on stand by in my reloading room. depending on what throat i will be working with I will typically have two different bullets in mind before I start load development. often shooting them side by side which ever gives me a more solid path sooner wins the early addition then I will proceed. both options would typically work its just one will pick my brass prep sooner reducing mu prep variables quicker.

I liked the results enough that I have pre-stocked up with 2000 more for 2021 also the hammer performed well with my chromoly barrel test.. the chromoly barrel on my Panda was my agging barrel all season.

I knew you were on the hammer this year and you shot very well. Im still not finished playing with throats either and now experimenting with groove size as well. Its a rabbit hole but the differences are huge, much more than I thought. And like you said, its interesting how different bullets respond. It makes sense now why certain bullets seem to shoot well in certain barrels.
