6BRA load data

these are hammers but I had similar pressure with the same load of vapor trail. I’ll try 30.5 or 30.4. I’ve tried varget and the pressure signs don’t happen but the groups aren’t as good.

I tried some bullets different from what I normally use, found myself a little more than grain lighter than I was with hybrids. Same powder, same cases, same everything except the bullets.

Back off on the powder, dont worry about the speed. Find where it shoots and is easy on the cases. Throw the chronograph away.

My guess is if he had a chronograph out to begin with he probably wouldn’t have had to even ask the question.

But still good advice.

How did the 28" Bartlein/237 bore/5R/ 7.5 twist shoot compared to the four grove?

All have shot extremely well. Consistently in the 2s at 100 for me as a PRS type shooter. The 5 R seemed to settle in a bit quicker as far as speeds, but I'm not sure I have a preference between those two specs. This was before a match last month- checking zeros on both barrels to have ready to go. The 4 groove krieger was left, 5 R bart was right (same load). The kriegers have remained a bit faster in speed vs. the bartlein with the same 30.2 gr of h4895. I won a shilen barrel that will be tested next.

Nice shooting!

Is the Kreiger a tight bore or standard bore?

With the Kreiger being slightly faster....unless you know the exact bore and groove size to the 4th decimal place your not comparing apples to apples.

Anytime you change the total surface area of the bore you can effect pressures and velocities. The groove size will have the biggest impact vs. the bore (tops of the lands) but like I said in the previous sentence you need to know to the 4th decimal place on each. .XXXX” on the bore and .XXXX” on the groove.

Was the same chamber reamer used? If not this can have an effect on pressures as well.

How many rounds on each barrel? Some barrels might need around 100 rounds to settle down. Not always but sometimes. That’s another possible variable. How clean are the barrels? One barrel has x amount of more rounds on it and there is more carbon build up in the bore of the barrel and this can bump velocities as well.

I’ve seen test barrels where the barrels where made .0005” undersize on both the bore and groove. It drove up pressures 8k-10k psi and drove up velocities 150-200fps. You wouldn’t think a few tenths makes a difference but it does.

Arm017, What are you getting for velocity between the two barrels?

I just clocked velocities with my 6BRA this past Sunday. Barrel prior to shooting it on Sunday only had 47 rounds on it. With formed cases and 30.5 of H4895 and a Fed205m and bullets .010” off the lands...

Sierra tipped 107’s where going 2868 average with a ES of 19 and a SD of 7 and that was for a 10 shot group.

Same load with the new 110 Hornady ATIP and those went 2822 average with ES of 18 and SD of 6 for a 5 shot string. I only had 22 of these bullets to play with so I wasn’t wasting any.

My barrel is a 5R and a 1-7 twist and 26” finish length.

Interesting side note the 107’s where loaded in 7BR Remington brass that I necked down to 6mm and the 110’s where loaded in 6BR Lapua brass.

I don’t like to be negative, but if you look at the aggs, I don’t see any advantage over a Dasher. People can debate all day but as I see it it’s a matter of choice. The Dasher takes more time to prepare brass, but you have more control over the final product. With the Dasher you have the ability to trim the neck beyond the shoulder junction. Power capacity is not an issue. It all comes down to the amount of time you are willing to spend on case preparation.

I own 3 Dashers with 3 different manufacturers of Barrels. They have all shot in the sub 5” range. The barrel screamer thing is a crock. You have to be able to know how to establish your headspace along with seating depths. Any given bullet likes to be spun at a certain RPM to achieve gyroscopically stability. Time over a chronograph is critical, but not rocket science. Once you have the RPM established it’s a matter of finding the correct powder charge.

Have you chambered, formed brass , tuned and shot a BRA?

what Aggs are we talking ? from three four years ago or current? 6 & 10 match agg's as well as single small 5 shot and single 10 shot targets have been falling for several Season now the 6BRA version being the Lion share 0f that in IBS Williams Sport NBRSA 1000 yard and six hundred with far less seasons under it and it will continue to lower the average aging bar if you will allow it to show you the way. don't treat it like its a dasher or some other version and it will show you a hole new gear.. there is not a sole on this planet than can make more consistent Dasher brass than the BRA version period.

That right I have seen the pictures shooting at sun rises. Try shooting after 10:00 am and lets see how good the INDIAN is with the arrow !!!

@Whitehunter

Robert,

I believe this must be the picture you're referring to that I posted in another thread.

20190713_064836-756x1008.jpg

This photo, is of an empty bench an hour and a half before the safety meeting. I was just checking out the scenery, and seeing if the flags needed batteries. The photo was just to illustrate the poor lighting in reference for a optics thread. The barrels aren't shaded until at least noon, plus or minus depending on the month. I assure you sir, no one I have heard of is shooting matches at 04:44. David would have beat my old Dasher record by SIX PLUS inches either way.

Guys,

My own personal bests have all come since switching to the BRA. Both in aggs and also single targets. I spent 9 years shooting dashers, a lot of them williamsport rules (so lot's of 10 shot groups) and finally shot a 10 shot group in the 3s around 2016. I switched in 2017 (in heavy only that year), and since that time have shot 4 more. That tells me all I need to know. We did NOT just start shooting at sunrise in 2017 for this to magically happen.

Now let's get back on to "BRA load data" if we could.

Tom
