6BRA for Short Range Freebore

Same as a 6br, love that long neck. I have read anywhere from .035- .070 for the 80's. I would like to try one in a 12 twist.

I orders the standard Alex Wheeler 6bra 104 reamer with a 272 neck for fast twist.

I was thinking of maybe. 040 to .050 for slow twist barrels. Sounds like you all agree.

Im ordering reamers so a can have Craddock Precision do a run of Bartlein prefits.

I have a 6 BRA with .25 Free Bore and that is perfect for the 70 GR. Nosler BT. It also works for the 80 GR Bullets. I would think anywhere from .25 to .45 would work great.

Urbanrifleman, I don't have a reamer. So sorry. I'm not sure if my gunsmith had a reamer of his own or if he borrowed it from one of his Gunsmith friends.
I haven't tried the 55 Gr. bullets so I really don't know. Probably would work but that just a SWAG...

Pumpkin, you are absolutely correct. I do need to add a couple of zeros. I'm a little slow sometimes. Thank you for pointing that out. I should have written .025 to .045 just as you pointed out. I knew better. Just in a hurry I guess.

Haven't tried the 80s but the 70noslers ballistic tips are great. When Mike Davis built my bra on a panda I had a new Kreiger LV in a 12 twist that I had gotten for some forgotten project. He used it for my fireforming barrel, cut the chamber .002 short. I now do all the cases for the year each spring when we go after prairie dogs. 8208 and the 70 noslers just make a hole. Get home, and because they are.002 short, run them through my bra size die (which actually doesn't do anything other than deprime)use a40° neck tool and skim cut down to the neck junction, which allows the case to blow out .002 past the cut and no donuts. Load with my regular bra
powder charge and 103s and go to the match. They chamber perfectly and shoot great for me. After that first match I anneal and
off to the races for the season with new brass.

I was really tempted to order my 6Bra ream with a 275 neck. But I figured that if we cut any barrels with that reamer for sale people would freak out. Because of course the neck has to be as tight as possible, which is total bull and only leads to donuts because the base of the neck cannot expand... If the reamer was for me only I think I would go to 275, and stop worry about all this freebore crap (pardon my french).

My testing with 243 has shown me that much of what I am hearing about freebore is just a lie. My 243 has loads where the bullet is seating PAST the pressure ring and my 243 will shoot like a 6BR. It has a 277 neck and I only size 2/3 of the neck. NO DONUT.

The shorter lighter weight bullets in 6mm (say like 85gr and lighter) I would recommend conventional style rifling like a conventional 4 groove or 5 groove.
