6BRA 14 T

I have a good barrel that was taken off as a 6ppc with 14 twist. I was wondering how it would perform rechambered in 6BRA? I know they work as a 6BR with 68s. Who has tried this, ideas? How heavy a bullet might I be able to shoot? This would be for 100 - 400 yards.

Through the years, I have done quite a few of these for friends. We would take my 6PPC barrels that I had fell out of love with, run a regular .060 throat 6BR rearmer in, and make a great shooter.

The 14 twist will limit you to bullets not much longer than those built on .825 jackets, such as the Hottenstien or Bruno 68 grn boatail.

I have tried Barts 80 grins in a 13.5 twist PPC. The bullets did not keyhole, accuracy was in the .300 range. I doubt a 1-14 will stabilize those.

It'll shoot but you'll be limited to bullets in the 60-70 grain range with that twist. Just start out with 6BR data and work up. Book data will likely be pretty low but just work up according to pressure signs and accuracy. I shoot a 6 Grendel and some of the guys I shoot with are shooting 6 BRAs with good results. I think they are shooting 12 twist bbls but I shot a slow twist 6br my first few years in br and did pretty well with one. You can be competitive with it. Just watch the flags and give em fits!

Why are you doing this? I regularly shoot a 13.5 twist PPC at 400 and 500 yd matches and do very well shooting bullets from 63 to 68 gr.. Use what you have.It will work just as well as what your thinking of changing to.

Goodday sir.
I have a few extra [slightly used] 6 PPC 14 t barrels laying around and was wondering how a rechamber to 6BRA would work.

thanks guys.

For varmints, You may want to go whole hog and try a 6 BRX or 6 Dasher in the 14T for a very good varmint round....my reamers have 0-.020 freebore.

70g tnt will impress in the 6 BRX and 6 Dasher with 0-.020 freebore. H335 and AA2230 gives very long barrel life with bug hole accuracy.

I have one 6 BRA zero freebore with 14T, formerly BR barrel. This is a very accurate barrel but leaves some speed on the table, which is very useful in launching colony varmints.

Of the three, the 6 BRX is my darling child, less finicky.

For short range, I'd stay with what you have..just my 2 cents. But the BRA will entirely clean up a PPC chamber by just running the reamer in and headspacing it like normal. A simple conversion for a rifle that has a bolt face that works with either case head diameter.

You could also run a 6 Grendel reamer into it and gain a little horsepower, on the same bolt as a ppc. I love the Grendel based cases. It makes a lot of sense and it just works.
