6br with 87 v-max

I have a 8 twist 6br and wanting to try the 87 v-max. What would the the best powder to try first ? Have H4895,Varget,Benchmark,H322 and Lt32. And how may grains to start out at. Will work up if I have place to start at.

Thanks for all the help

We could fill a book with 6mm BR reloading recipes, case prep secrets, accurizing tips, and miscellaneous voodoo. Or we could tell you simply take a new Lapua 6BR case, add a CCI 450 primer, drop in 30 grains of Varget, top it with a Fowler 80gr FB bullet at the lands, and shoot it.

From this site. 30 will work with 87 V-Max too.

Doc Stone, the fella written up on here for the 1100 yd prairie dog kill likes the heck out of the 87 but I think he's pushing it with an XC. He DOES like that pill though.

I hope to find some myself, one of these days.

The Benchmark will work also. Later! Frank

Well, I'm the odd man out, I guess. I could not get the 87 Vmax to shoot in my 8-twist, 4-groove Shilen barrel. Tried for 200 rounds and the best I got at 100 yards was about 1.5 inches. Before that, I usually had no idea where the bullet was going to go (it could be at 1-o'clock and 4 inches away for one shot, then the next would be at 7-o'clock and 5 inches away), and they key-holed all the time!!! They shot very well in my 243 Win, but not the 6BR.

Now, the 80 grain Berger FB shot 1-hole groups (best was 0.077 for 3 shots at 100 yeards) using BLC-2, Varget, Benchmark, H322, 8208-XBR. In my 14-twist, 4-groove, I'm having great results with 68 BTs from Bart and Hottenstein, as well as the 66 FB and 65 BT from Bart, with XBR and LT-32. I've settled on LT-32 because it meters so well in my Harrell's, and I've switched from 450s to BR-4 just recently, but see very little difference between them.

HTH and YMMV of course ::)
