Wanting to get another barrel for a 6br. Going to be used for varmint out to about 300 yds.
Would like to use a light bullet. What's a good twist to go with?

no, " means inches, as in 1 complete revolution (twist) in 7 inches
info came from Shilen website
and the asterisk denotes stainless barrels

I have a criterion 8t that shoots 87 vmaxs into tiny groups, even better than the 105s. Makes a great long range pdog rifle.

I bought a 1:14 Pac-Nor 3 grove. Shoots 55-70's very well. You will be surprised how hard they hit. I had it Made with 0 free bore.

I bought a 3 groove Pac-Nor 10 twist to shoot the 87 grain v-max in 6BR. It has been a hammer
on the prairie rats at WAY out there distances...too much fun.:D I have worked up a load that has
been very consistent .7 at 200 yards. I'm ok with that being a rat killer...:p:D:D

You may very well limit yourself by going with a real slow twist - though they are best for 300 yd lighter bullets (like a 1-12") If you ever think you might want to shoot way out there with a much heavier bullet, you might opt for a 1-8"to 1-10". I routinely shoot 55 grain V-maxes and 62 Grain Varmint Grenades out of my 1-8 twist 6br. and they shoot fantastic. It s nice to know I can shoot 105's when I want without having to get another barrel.

I have 26" Krieger 1/14 twist 6BR. Shoots 58g Vmax 65g + 75g Vmax - all with very good accuracy. hits really hard w the lighter bullets.
I'd say it's good to 300-400 yds.

If I had to do again, 1/12 may be better.

I have other 6mm rifles w faster twists for 105's, fwiw.

I have used 15,14,13, and 12. Short freebore is a real bonus, and 65g Vmax with H335 or AA2230 will give you the shock of your life in accuracy with speed.

You may want to put out a Want to buy for a used 24" heavy varmint 6 PPC barrel, they have plenty of life in them, and usually $100 delivered.

Have the gunsmith cut the threads off, and you will be into fresh barrel.

One of my current 6 br's is a 12T, the rest of them are 14's(used BR take offs). They are chambed with a zero freebore reamer, and I shoot the 55g Nosler at 3900 out of a 27" barrel.

65g V max with H335, H322, and AA2230 are unreal on varmints. The 75g are no where near flat shooting as the 55-65g bullets and they seem to have the trajectory of a 45/70.
