6br vs 6beggs

after doing a few builds...and postponing a 6br....it's come time to revisit the idea after getting all of my other projects complete.

so...after looking into the PPC...I've decided that for my purposes, that's more work than i care to take on. I will only be shooting this gun 100-200yds...300yds AT MOST and only very rarely. 100-200 can/will be a weekly thing.

My needs/wants are easy brass prep, good barrel life, easy tuning, and the ability to shooting the middle weight 6mm bullets with precision and accuracy.

I stumbled upon the 6beggs in my PPC research...and it seems to be a great idea with minimal effort. I'll for sure want a no-turn chambering. As much as I can see...you just neck up the 220rus brass to 6mm in a single pass, then load and shoot to get your final forming (much like my 223ai I just completed..minus the necking up) Would this round give me a benefit over the 6br enough to go that route over a 6br???

I'm planning on a polished Marsh Saguaro or Stiller Cobra....shorter 1.25 straight contour barrel....jewell or like trigger...and all that in a shehane st/br or st1000 stock (will be deciding that when i restock my 223ai in the next few weeks) and topped with a weaver t36 that i have sitting in one of my safes. I'm not worried about a class or meeting any set criteria...I'm just wanting a gun to piss my friends off at the range

I do not have any knowledge about the pros or cons of the 6br vs the 6beggs.

But I was looking at a 20 Beggs (220 Beggs necked to 204) and email Gene directly. He is very personable and easy to talk with. If you have questions, I encourage you to reach out to him.

I am also having a new 6ppc gun built. It will be using the Marsh action. I found Butch's Reloading has them in stock and on sale. I called and talked with Ed Adams. Great guy by the way, and he is building my 6ppc rifle on the Marsh.

I fail to see what the big deal is with the PPC (For me, making the brass is not difficult.). But having said that, I feel that the BR is so close that for most, who are not putting on a full court press, the difference would get lost in the noise. The Beggs has less capacity then the PPC and probably has a shorter list of suitable powders than the PPC or BR. Why not just buy a close neck reamer for Norma 6PPC brass? That way you have all of the options that any PPC shooter has, without having to make brass. Do you shoot over a set of flags?

i don't wanna bother with PPC just because of tuning, brass prep, etc... I want an "easy" round to load for...I shoot with some avid ppc shooters, and a hall of famer, and all have told me to "work up" to the PPC... I'm not quite to the level of going that deep. I know the benefits are there...i've seen the groups, but that's all in due time...

I don't shoot over flags, never even used them....but I don't really have wind where I shoot, so I'm assuming it'd be negligible. I don't have a chrono, yet, either........ i'm buying a magnetospeed here before long though

A no turn chamber 6PPC is no different than the 6br with a no turn chamber to load for. You can tune any caliber or take the load from the book `and shoot better than a box of 30-30 ammo from Wal-mart from your M94. It gets down to what makes you happy. If you load with bulk winchester or Remmington bullets your accuracy will show that.

You're overthinking this and on the way to outsmarting yourself. There's nothing easier than a 6BR, just load and go. Stupid easy to make one shoot and capable of more accuracy than most people who own them.

Otoh, if you get a no turn chamber for Norma brass, a 6PPC is really just as easy.

You might want to run that bit about the wind by your hall of fame buddy to see what he thinks.

There are flags there...most likely his, as most of the other guys are cowboy action or ex-thousand yard and skeet guys... it's a private range on family land, so I could put them out...just, well, i don't know how to read the wind lol

his name is Ed Hartman, btw... really nice guy

Let me recommend a book that I enjoyed. The Accurate Rifle By Warren Page. It was first published in 1972, written just before the PPC came on the scene. It is full of good information for someone who wants to learn more about benchrest, that is just a true today, as the day it was written.
