6br variants

I'm looking for the accuracy of the 6br and the speed of a 6xc or there abouts with 85 to 105's. Would like something easy to form brass, and a no turn neck. But also a good solid case and easy on the throat. Kinda sounds like the perfect cartridge doesn't it!!!!???

i would go with the 6br-dx. after my 6br barrel wears out, i'm going to get another barrel chambered for this round. read about this round in the guns of the week archive. david stripling uses this round with great results. it has a little less taper than the dasher with a longer neck. no false shoulder stuff when forming like the dasher. just load a 6br round and shoot it in the 6br-dx chamber. this is a nice looking round and i wish there was more info out there on it--i think the dasher would be old news if this round would see more use. spencer rifle barrels has a reamer for this round as does doug paschall.

Thanks Cole, I really like the sound of that. I guess what I should have asked for was 6mm variants, not necessarily 6br case wildcats. But I'm going to research that 6br-dx right now. Adios

I have had a 6BRDX for about 3 years although didn't get to compete in many matches in '09 thanks to FedEX busting up the rifle in transit from getting re-barreled. Looking forward to the 2010 season with the rifle re-stocked and also a new heavy gun also in 6BRDX. The cartridge is very easy to form as mentioned, and performance seems to be very similar to the Dasher. Berger 105's and 108's work well for me with either Varget or RL-15. Hornady makes a very nice custom hydraulic forming die which is very nice, eliminating a lot of fire forming wear & tear.

Okiecat,

I shoot a 6 BRX. I think all of them are about the same. I did a 6CX looking for the speed and accuracy, didn't get either. I came bark tp the 6BRX.

6mm BRX is the best choice if you consider the cost of reloading dies as part of the equation.

The BRX will provide wonderful accuracy and great ballistics with bullets up to 107gr.

You can use the false shoulder or bullet jam method to fireform cases and you use standard 6 BR dies for reloading. No special, expensive dies required. You do need an extra 308 body die to side the base of the case, but that is all. Those dies are pretty inexpensive.

I have chambered up three bbls for the BRX, all shoot excellent. Low reloading expense cause you only use about 33.5 gr of powder to get 6XC performance with better accuracy.

That is my .02.

JBR--let us know about your 6BR-DX when you shoot it. Some load info, chrony data, and some bullet holes would be nice to see on that cartridge.

Thanks

cmillard - I have been most successful with 30.5 gr of Varget using Berger 108's and CCI BR4's. Bullets were seated to just touch the lands, almost no visible mark on the surface. This is a fairly mild load running 2850-2875 f/s using a CED M2 Chronograph.

Running 31-31.5 gr of Varget with Berger 105 VLD's gave about 2950-3000 f/s and some pretty good results as well but the lighter loads with 108's was more consistent. weather permitting, I'll start trying out the new barrel with these loads starting out fairly soon.

I'm also going to try RL15 again and also Federal 205M's and CCI 450's.

The Hornady hydraulic forming die works very nicely and eliminates almost all the fire forming work.
