6BR twist rate

Hi - new to the forum and first post.

I would like to get a 6BR principally for some paper punching and occasional varmint shooting. I really like Cooper rifles; however, their 6BR has only a 1 in 14 twist rate. Seems to me that this is really slow and would limit my choice of bullet weights. I would also like to also use bullets over 100 grains.

I think I need a faster twist at least 1 x 10. What are your thoughts about the 1 in 14 twist rate and do you have suggestions.

Thanks -

William

If you check with your Cooper dealer I'm sure you'll find they'll chamber any twist rate you want.
I like the 95 Berger’s for out to about 500 yards. If you’re going to shoot further than that get an 8 twist and some 105s or so.
If you'll be shooting under 300 yards stay with the 14 twist and you'll shoot some tiny little groups.

They can meet their guranteed performance in short, 14tw barrels, so I suspect this is why their guns are set up this way. Of course they're using short BR type bullets, and don't actually qualify the guns at 100yds as they imply.

But it would be tough for them to guarantee anything if their guns left the shop in different configurations..

I wasn't aware that there were any 'custom' options for Coopers outside of wood grade. But a 6br in 14tw would be fairly useless, as they are not benchrest guns.
So I would pass on that or plan up front for an appropriate barrel change.

I run into the same issue with one of their 223s in 14tw. Shoots 50 Blitzkings well, which is good enough, cuz that's about it for bullet choices..
I would have preferred 12tw in 223, which would have given me about a hundred more options.

I agree. A slightly faster twist rate would give a lot more flexibility. If I think about changing barrels I might as well get a custom rifle from the get go.

You can get a 1:10 twist from Cooper for no addtionalcost if you tell them at the time of order. This is becasue they use that barrel on the .243
