6BR scope choice help

dave300 said:
Hello all, new on here and I am getting close to receiving my new 6BR build. It is goiong to have a 8 twist and I built this for the girlfriend and kids to use when hunting antelope and mulies. I anticipate using 105-107 grains boolits.
I am a nightforce guy and would like to stay with a nightforce. My question is more towards magnification range for 6BR. Not expecting the range to exceed 600 yards, but after familarizing myself with the build maybe it will extend past that?
Any opinions or experience will be greatly appreciated.
I have a 5.5x22x50 MOAR reticle not attached any gun now, is this to much scope? 3.5x15x50 a better option.
Thanks, Dave

The 3.5x15 is a great general purpose hunting scope, but if you have a 5.5x22 available I would not hesitate to use it. I use a 6br 8 twist for general hunting with a 8.5x25 M-4 Leupold. It is used for varmint deer and target. For deer I can drop back on magnification if need be, for fox and G-hogs 25x and let it rip. I hunt deer in open fields and don't often come off 20-25x.

Field of view is a major issue when hunting. That 5.5 power should have enough field of view in more open areas for target acquisition. 22X may be a bit much for hunting game animals. So what?

I would limit my distance due to energy on the target. Look at the BR velocity of about 2800fps muzzle and figure out how far you still can carry close to 1,000 ft. lbs of energy. That's how far you can use it for antelope and deer.

Good luck with your new rifle and that wonderful Nightforce.

GF and kids....keep it simple and low mag. Unlike the older gents on this forum, they don't need high magnification to hit those mulies :-)

I run the new NF Comp 15-55 and all the other shooters that have put an eye to it say it's one of the best made and brightest they've seen. Most of these guys are running the older NF Benchrest versions.
I went with the DDR reticle for long range F-Class.

Sorry, but the 15-55x 52mm Comp models are NOT as bright as the BR series. The BR series have a 56mm objecive lens, thus allowing more light into the scope. Now the Comp series may be clearer than the BR series.
They sure seem brighter :D They are definitely clearer. I think once they sink in people are going to realize its the next step in scopes.

Natchez Shooters Supply has some Weaver Extreme scopes on sell closeout prices, these are extremely nice scopes have really good glass 30 mm tubes and side focus . My son and I both bought one each a couple years ago when Natchez had some more of these on sell , this has to be one of the best scopes I have ever had for hunting tough, clear, and when you shoulder the rifle the eye relief and field of view is like looking out a window great stuff I got the 2.5x10x56. The light gathering at low light times is excellent also can't say enough about these scopes.299.00 for a 900.00 scope ;)
