A Redding 6br Remington s type bushing full length die, will it be alright on my Lapua brass in my Norma chamber? I read the Lapua brass has long neck and I’d rather not wreck it or put some kind of roll crimp on it. But with a bushing maybe I can avoid this issue. Only paid 15 bucks for it new on the sale rack so.... please advise.

A bushing die will not put any type of crimp on a neck
I was reading about the Remington having a short neck so wasn’t sure if it would wanna crimp. Then I realize that my normal Redding br dies say Remington. I ran a case up in the new die, (no bushing), looks okay, so maybe 15 bucks will be a bargain

Better to ask a question, rather than make a mistake. This stuff is not really all that difficult, take your time ask questions, measure and record for future reference
Yeah, it’s faster to ask people here that it is to experiment and wreck stuff usually. Not saying that stops me from wrecking shit, but. Now I’m just gonna get some bushings comin

Since I started this thread with a dumb question, I’ll double down. What is the deal with the expander ball on a bushing die? Other than the decapper. Is the expander undersized to do nothing? The die came with 2, I have not measured them yet but again, asking the pros here.

remove/replace the expander ball with the "undersize" decapping pin holder ,,,,let the bushing determine the sized neck tension ,,,the bushing should be ~.003" smaller than loaded neck dia.......Roger

Thanks!!

I understand Wilson bushings fit in Redding? I don’t anneal yet so I’d imagine the neck tension and bushing and brass spring back is sort of a variable. I’ll get a few sizes. Excited to toss the expander ball.

YES,,they do ,,,and I like them better,,,,they are tapered (small on the top--numbered--side) so that if you need to "tighten" up the necks a lil' you can invert the bushing and get the necks .0005" (half a thou.) tighter,,,,and the Redding (in my humble experience) are NOT as labeled,,,they usually are tighter/smaller than indicated ,,,,and they are not tapered,,,,Roger
PS./..remember to not tighten the decaping assy. down on the bushing to hold it in place,,,,leave it just a little loose,,just enuff to rattle,,,,
