6BR - Remington vs Norma Made Simple

It is amazing how much is inaccurate on Wikipedia though most people take what they find there as irrefutable. Getting them to change things is not as easy as it is to post new items to their collection.

I went through this with the Remington Custom Shop when they built my 6mmBR Norma. I have the reamer prints for both rounds that they were offering and the base is slightly different on the 6mmBR Remington. I think it is also pointed out on the home page here under 6mmBR. Since mine was built at Dakota Arms, where the custom shop moved, they let me order and keep my reamer.

I've got one of the 22BR Remington's in a custom shop 40X rifle. A small base sizing die made the whole experience a happy thing.:) Before that, -- not so much. jd

Rem cases have been measuring .467-468 at the .200 , Lapua are larger .
That's why a 45acp carbide sizing die is used to reduce base dia of Lapua .( small base die ) if using a Lee carbide $25 it's important to drill out the deprime assembly .
I've done dozens , no cost . Pm for details if needed .

Th cases are different with the Lapua and Norma being fatter. Most are at .002 bigger if front of the extractor groove. Maybe this was done becuase REM held a patent on it. It is enough to give sizing issues. All you have to do is search the web and many threads and stories of this problem. Most guys just ran the 6 Norma reamer in and changed their gun. Matt

Pardon me, but I am dazed and confused:confused:
Are you guys discussing chamber size, or brass casing size? Norma (brand) 6mmbr Norma brass or Lapua (brand) 6mmbr Norma brass? And is there a difference?

I have a 6mmBr Rem barrel I had re-chambered to Norma specs and throated to fit a dummy round by a Gun Smith. I use Lapua brass and it chambers fine. I seem to have no issues with this combination however, after reading this I am confused and concerned. Should I be? This is my first 6mmBR experience.

Also, what is a "bolt click"?

Since you rechambered you won't have a problem. The Norma chamber is slightly bigger.

Bolt click is when the back end of fired case gets tight in the gun and is caused by the die not sizing the back end of the case enough. When you open the bolt it will get hard lift at top when it is trying to extract the case. Sometimes it will make a clicking sound. That is where it got it's name. Most times it can be remedied by a custom die.

It is not the same as a hot load where the bolt lift is hard from the beginning of the bolt lift. Matt

No vague blanket statements please. Exactly which dimensions are different ? I see none in those 2 prints.

Why are you worried about the difference? I don't think Rem has made the 6 BR Rem in decades. Everyone shoots the 6mm BR Norma. I don't think you could buy a 6MM BR Rem from any manufacturer. Rem may still make the 6mmBR REM for the 40X model rifle? where would you buy brass?
