6 Norma BR, Lee Collet Die

How interchangeable are 6 BR Remington vs 6 BR Norma dies?
More specifically; I'm partial to the Lee Collet Neck dies after FL bump sizing my brass.

I just purchased my 1st 6BR Norma today and am starting to pickup all required dies and etc...
I'm going to definitely get seating and sizing dies marked specifically for 6BR Norma but Lee only has 6BR Remington in their collet selection.

The die you are proposing is NOT a 6BR Remington. Lee does not make such a die. The die is for the 6mm Remington, also known as the 244 Remington...Lee does make custom dies, and perhaps that is a posability. I have had good results with the Witten adjustable shoulder bump die, and the Redding body die about every fourth firing. Good luck.

So many 6mm/BR variants and everyone seems to be sold out of 6BR Norma dies except for Whidden directly.

This has come up ever since this site started as 6mmBR.com fifteen years ago and there are numerous threads addressing the issue.

The dies sold today as 6mm BR Remington are actually to Norma specs. If you look at Redding's dies they are labeled as 6mmBR Remington with Norma in parenthesis. The only place you might run into a real 6mm BR Remington die would be in an antique shop. If you're only going to use dies labeled as 6mm BR Norma your choices are going to be really limited.

As posted Lee currently does not make a collet die for the 6mm BR. They will custom make you one for appx $70. Lee use to stock collet dies for the 6mm PPC but not long ago discontinued these also. If your lucky you can probably find them in stock somewhere and purchase a set. They will work for sizing the 6mm BR case. I use one to size my 6mm BR cases. You can use them with a washer/shim of appx .045 thickness and it will size all the neck or just use as is and a slight portion of the neck mouth will not be sized. Some have used them both ways. I prefer to size the entire neck. In fact the new collet dies leave this very small neck portion purposely unsized.

The other point of ongoing frustration is the diameter of the decapping pins. I ordered the custom Lee 6BR dies with two mandrels. One had the correct pin and one was oversized--it would punch the primer out but expanded the flash hole. A little emory cloth will fix it. I do believe the Lee collet die plus a body die is the way to go for most folks that don't neck turn. If you are going to neck turn, the Harrells sizing die is the ticket. Once you get set up, I doubt you'll ever want to do without a 6BR;)

Have Lee make you one for $70.00
If you live in the US this is a decent way to go, but if you live outside by the time you have dealt with international shipping both ways along with $70 US for the die I'd be looking at something around $160 of my dollars. Also shipping cartridge cases across the boarder is a chance to take.
