6br Remington brass without flash hole

A friend bought out a whole gun shop a while ago and ended up with 100 (5 boxes of 20) pieces of Remington brand 6mm BR brass without flash holes. Remington told him it was ordered that way. He would like to sell it to me as a package with some Lapua brass, but I have no idea what it's worth. Why buy brass without flash holes at all? Can anyone here educate me a little on this? I would keep the Lapua and sell the Remington.

Good question for the previous owner. Your friend should throw the Remington in the trash, or send it back to the manufacturer for credit or rework.

Every so often that type of brass shows up on gunbroker and usuallly goes for a good price. No holes is problematic. Stick 'em in a lathe & drill the holes, your choice of sizes, just work that's all. Buy 'em & stick 'em on GB or in the classifieds here.

For a short period of time, Remington made this brass available for people that wanted to drill their own flash holes to the .062"smaller dimensions they wanted. I believe Sinclair marketed a bushing that fit in the primer pocket with a hole through the middle to drill out the flash hole.

Since a couple of you seem to think there is some information not posted or posted incorrectly, could you please elaborate? I don't know jack about the history of this stuff ..... that's why I posted the question.

What Alf said in post #3. Over the years there have been a number of cartridges, including some BPCR cartridges, that have been found (at least for some loads) to shoot more accurately with smaller than standard flash holes. The BPCR guys shooting silhouette that wish to do this have special dies that will swedge the flash hole down to a smaller diameter; no manufacturer that I know of has made 40-65 or 45-70 brass runs with no flash hole, so they have taken that approach.

Just another fertile ground for experimentation.

So should the holes be drilled to .062, .080, or ???

Use a 1-64 / 1-72 tap drill.

Laupa uses the small flash hole, Rem has used the big ".080" in most all of it's brass. You get to get those cases "your way".

Drilling your own holes on a lathe will be much more consistent than the factory punched holes. --Jerry

Wonder what happened to the brass? Maybe its one of those topics where the guy tries to use br rem brass in a lapua brass chamber that comes up quite often.
