6BR Redding Neck Sizer Die Bushing sizes

I am ordering my dies and was wondering if I can order a couple of the Bushing sets. Does anyone know what the current Lapua brass is running as far as neck OD with a bullet seated? I will be using 68 & 80 gr Bergers in a factory chambered Savage.

I have read to subtract .003" from the loaded neck OD and in another place see where Redding says to only subtract .001"?

Is it safe to buy a couple bushings and what is the consensus on the regular vs the Titianium?

My blue box Lapua runs about .0125
You can buy as many bushings as you want to try - It will make a dif
on the right platform.
I like to use the Ti bushings - but nothing wrong with the regulars.

Frozentundra,
I think I am using a .267 bushing in my no turn savage, but I like to buy several +and -
if 750kr is right and I think he is you could figure as follows
.243+.0125x2=.268-.001=.267 anyway that is why I buy 4 or 5 bushings both directions, Once I find what is working the best in said rifle I order a ni bushing. Hope this helps.

I should have added if this is for hunting or is on a ar type platform you will want more than .001 probably .003 or .004 would be about right. I like about .001 for single feed BR shooting, or whatever works best ;)

I just measured my loaded brass. With Berger 105 VLD it is .266 and with Hornady 105 A-Max it is .267. They are different lots of Lupa brass, that may account for the difference in thickness. I only have two bushings, the .265 and .266. I probably should trim the necks but I don't.

There are two issues to consider. First is the brass. I use the older cardboard box Lapua brass and measure pretty close to 0.269 loaded with Berger 68 and 80 grain. However, I read that the new blue box Lapua is 0.001 thinner in the neck wall. So I would expect they should be around 0.267 loaded.

The second issue is Redding and their bushing sizes. It is frequently reported that their bushings do not measure the same as what they are stamped. I'm not clear that they intend to make them what they are stamped, or if they are trying to allow for springback, or just have issues with quality control.

I use Forster and the bushings do measure what they are stamped. They are clear in that if you want to load for target then go for 0.002" less than loaded. With 0.001" springback you will then have 0.001" tension. I do just that, and use a .267 bushing. For hunting (magazine and recoil issues, or moly bullets) then they recommend 0.003" smaller, for a 0.002" fit.

So certainly in the Forster line, if I was forced to pick one bushing for the new Lapua brass it would be 0.265". In Redding it is your guess. Is it too late to buy Forster? I think it may be the better choice.

I have the new blue box brass and the dies, the 3 sets of bushings are already on the way. I will measure them and adapt. Now I know why they sell the nice little bushing storage box for $3.69 ;)

Frozentundra,
I think when you get your new dies and bushings you will see why I buy +&- 5 bushings, I know its $135 worth of bushings, but if your a shooter you will eventually need all of them @ one time or another. Its not a cheap sport, with that said I am not sure you will have the right bushing once the brass has been fired. If you plan on turning it you definitely won't, you probably will need a .265 or .266 @ any rate good luck to you and order the bushing box with next order of bushings ;)

RonAKA,
I received my first Forster n/k and f/l dies and ultra seater the other day ;D Ron I think you might be right these dies are very well built, I mean very well built. I am very impressed with the rounds I am building. A few more days of loading my 6br and I may be sorry I have Thousands of dollars worth of Redding dies and bushings :-\

I think you should have got the 265, 266, and 267. The 268 and 269 will be useless, 267 may be too. I used the 268 with the old thicker brass and had very light neck tension. Just got my first new batch of Lapua tonight. I loaded 1 dummy and it measured just shy of .268". I'm going to start with a 266 bushing.

Midway was out of all but one of the sizes so I ended up getting them from Sinclair, I already have the box saved in my next Midway cart and figured I would need more bushings. I am shooting a factory chambered 12 F and didnt plan on neck turning but who knows, it's a long winter.

DCRYDER, I ordered 60 rounds of Lapua loaded ammo for some instant satisfaction and figured that it might still be the older thicker brass, who knows.
I figured I can use that stuff for practice before I move into the 200 rounds of new brass.

Seriously you didn't waste your money you will eventually use all of them. If you don't want all of them I will buy them from you.
