6br or dasher in tikka tac (uses ctr mags)

Hey all,

Looking for some knowledge and expertise! I have a tikka tac a1 that runs the same mags as ctr and I was wondering in 6br family would feed from those magazines? Looking to have it reliably feed.

Regards,

Joel

No experience with the CTR magazines, but will add a caution that there is likely a reason that 6 BR and 6 Dasher are not listed for them. If a common 308 magazine will work without modification, it is a matter of luck. Many times they will not.

6 BR has been around a long time, long enough for the folks who shot competition that required rapid strings to know that the magazines had to be tailored to that cartridge for reliability.

When the 6 Dasher caught on with the PRS shooters, many folks ran into feed reliability issues that required specific fixes to their magazines and feed ramps to run the guns with impunity.

The most common fix was for the AI magazines to be fitted with a spacer kit. If you don't find that someone has already solved the issue for Tikka and CTR magazines, I would wonder if it is possible that one of these existing spacer kits could be modified to fit your CTR magazines?

Hi Joel,
I think your best bet would be a specific magazine for the Tikka rather than trying to modify an existing magazine, like an AICS. Have a look at the website watersrifleman.com where you choose a Tikka CTR magazine, bottom metal etc which should suit your needs.

There is a YouTube channel you can check out called Edge of the Outback where you can see a Tikka 6BR with a Waters magazine in operation. It is quality gear and with the Atlasworxs bottom metal in my Remington 6BR, it feeds beautifully, much better than any previous modification I have tried.

I can say, that to have a great feeding 6BR is a thing of beauty.
Waters Rifleman is in Australia so I don’t know how you will go with importing but I’m sure it can be done.
Good luck.

I’m based in nsw Australia, so that’s an excellent resource!

Yeah I’ve had other single feeds and one older tikka (different mags) that fed well and so I’ve been chasing that ever since.

I’ll call them and ask, I’m sure they’ve had this issue before. If they have a solution I’ll buy it so it’s ready when I get the rifle back and that way I can report back on original mag and new one. That would be in a couple weeks however.

Thanks for the response

Well there’s a coincidence! Good luck with it and let us know how you go. I have a modified AICS style mag, not sure of the make, which looks like it was made by a blacksmith in comparison with the Waters mag.
Cheers mate

I sent an email to Waters Rifleman, they ship once a week to the US. I have a few customs with Tikka actions and will have more in the future, that’s a very useful contact, thanks for mentioning them.

I'm interested to know this. I have a Waters 10 round magazine for a .308 TAC A1 and was told by them that it will not work with 6 BR hence I was looking at 6x47L instead when I come to rebarrel.
