Tikka T3 in 6br??

Oh, that brings up one more thing I forgot above...recoil lug. The recoil lug on the T3 is a joke at best. They shoot in factory config no doubt about it but the recoil lug is really lacking. The smith is going to fix that too.

Go to www.jardinc.com They have Tikka triggers from 12oz to 36oz but they are 132.00 a piece plus shipping.

Yeah, I don't know what exactly the metric deal was but one guy said he couldn't cut metric threads. Heck, maybe he just didn't want to screw with it???

As for stock....I bought a non inletted McMillan Tooley MBR and the smith is gonna inlet it to the Tikka. The more I type about this "little" project the dumber I feel :)

Both Mcmillan and Manners inlet stocks for the T3 and there are getting to be more aftermarket products produced for them. I can't remember who it was now but someone is making a tube gun chassis for them now too. I think the secret is out.

I agree when I saw that I said REALLY?.... but it doesn't seem to hurt there accuracy one darn bit, at least in the lesser recoiling rifles like I have.

Well I hope you do come to shoot gophers, I need someone to teach me how to shoot :)
Not gonna make March shoot now cuz gonna be in the middle of moving back to the mountains. Oh well.

Sorry to get off subject fellas, but how much is there to discuss about whether or not a 6BR will feed from a Tikka .308 mag or not??? I think we beat that horse down in the first 3 or 4 posts ;)

The T3 should be imperial threaded. Heck, the 595 was imperial threaded. I assumed that the 595 would have been metric threaded, so I sent off a 595 action and a TRG barrel (metric thread) to a smith, and he had to recut the 595 tenon from metric to imperial to fit. The T3 should be similar.

Great idea though. I'd bet that a T3 308 mag and a few minutes of dremeling a la the AI mag modification would yield good results.

It's Eliseo.

I bought a T3 in 243 for a walking around coyote gun. I'm crazy about that little rifle.

Actually XLR, whiskey 3 and McCree all make nice chassis for the Tikka. The XLR is about the only one that could be setup for bench shooting. But of the 3 it is very pricey.

Also if anybody else is thinking about trying this, it is very low risk because if it doesn't end up working you can rechamber the barrel in 6xc, 6 creed moor, 6-47, 243ai

Mine should be done in a few weeks and I will report back as soon as I have field tested it.

Note that the Tikka T3 has TWO types of "308" size magazines. There is a 243/308 and a 22-250 magazine. They LOOK very similar but, from personal experience, they ain't the same. You need the 22-250 in a 22-250...not sure about the other way around. I'd have thought with the 6MM that the 243/208 and the 22BR cases I have feed ok in the 22-250 I own. The 243/208 has much more parallel feed lips whereas the 22-250 are more tapered.
HTH.

I had a T-3 chambered in 6 mm Dasher last fall as a walk around coyote rifle, started off as a 243. Feeds just fine with no issues at all. Went with a 26 inch barrel and I'm shooting 95 VLD's at 3070 fps. No pressure signs at all but haven't tried anything hotter.

What barrel and what twist did you go with?
Wayne.

Went with a benchmark barrel , 1-8 twist 4 groove , tapers to .740 at the muzzle and had it fluted. Rifle weighs 8.4 pounds with a leupold scope. Benchmark did the fluting and the groves are fairly deep and it balances very well. Using N -140 with the 95's. 5 shot groups are .5''. Shot off a bipod. Waiting for it to warm up to do some more load development but more than accurate for its intended purpose.

Hi ,
Another stock solution available for the tikka:

Just had a tikka t3 built. On current receivers, the barrel thread is 1" 16 tpi. My rifle was a tactical with 18mmx1 threaded muzzle. My gunsmith recut the threads ibn an ops inc brake to metric originally. I just had him install a 25.5" Krieger4 groove1-8 243. That barrel measures 1.2" @ chamber and .870"@muzzle. He machined the small radius off the front of the action to make the 1.2" look seamless . The original barrel measures 1.12". I tried a xlr but could not get it to feel comfortable, shot some good groups but also had several that showed i did not work with that stock. I got a good deal on a krg, gen2 folder with a blemish gen3 forend. I expected blemishes but the forend is nice black anodized and no dings or scratches. This stock is rock solid and super comfortable. Took the rifle to 1k yesterday in a switchy wind, first rd was a miss on a 1moa plate, but the next 9 were hits. Holding anywhere from .5 mrad-1.5 mrad. All from a bipod and bean bag. I thought I read that cg wasn't making a tikka trigger anymore. Sako trg22 trigger work, but not sure of pull weight. I have a jard that is light,8 oz, it is supposed to be 12oz. They changed the geometry or something because the trigger travel is almost twice that of factory. I set it for almost 0 sear engagement and no overtravel, it is still almost 1/4" of trigger travel. I use the factory trigger with a coil clipped off the original spring. Light crisp

Android cut me off. Factory trigger is crisper and shorter total travel then jard and trips at 12oz. Originally went down to about 1 lb, 7oz.

I have a Tikka varmint coming next week and a few barrel blanks stored away. Sometime down the road i will have it rebarreled. Are barrels that are 1.25 to big to use on these actions at the face of the receiver? If so what size blanks are best to use? Also, who out their has a good rep on barreling these up?
