I was wondering what the heaviest bullet you could shoot with a 9 twist in a 6br or 6x47. I am wanting to shoot sierra 107's and something a bit lighter for prairie rats. Looking for a compromise. Lee

To shoot the 107s and lighter bullets from a 6BR get a 1:8" or at least a 1:8.25" twist.

You might get away with a 9 twist with the 6-6.5x47 but it wouldnt' be a sure thing will the heavy bullets.

I shoot 95gr and 105gr Bergers in my 6X47 Lapua with a 9 twist. It shoots very well the 95's will smoke out there at 3500 and shoot 2 tenths if I do my part.

Mac,

Thanks for your report. That's great velocities with the 95s. I suspected the 105s would work with a nine twist if you get the speed up there with the 6-6.5x47, but I just wanted to caution skeetlee that he needed a 1:8" to shoot 107s in the slower 6BR.

I have a Krieger 6br with a 1-8 twist. The problem I have is that the last time I checked, no one made a varmint bullet heavier than 87g. And the optimal accuracy for that bullet is not 1-8 twist.

The heavy bullets it shoots best, punch right through the groundhogs with little or no expansion.
