6BR Norma Bullet Choice

Back in the old days, almost 20 years ago, this site was known as 6mmBR.com. A lot of us early members spent a lot of time with that specific cartridge.

With the apparent shortage of Varget I'm surprised nobody mentioned Alliant Reloader 15 which seems easier to come by. I used it for three or four years with the same results as Varget. It leaves a bit more fouling in the barrel but gives slightly higher velocity. There was an article on here by Jason (JB1000BR) that questioned the logic of the 6 Dasher when you could just change powder and get the same velocity out of the 6BR case.

I miss the old days. But I still shoot a "plain jane" 6BR!

For what I’m going to do here, small club stuff, some whistlers going to the fields of heaven, the old girl/originator will do.

I get why guys are going to the variations. They have every reason to.

I have a long history with 700’s and the 222 and met Mike Walker in his older years. Unexpectedly. He signed one of my targets at a shoot years ago.

One of the blessings I’ve had. He was just like you guys, willing to help and humble and all heck.

I’ve decided I’m going to try both the 105 hybrid and the 108. During break in hopefully find what it’s gonna kinda like. I’ll donate what it doesn’t to someone here that helped that uses said bullet.

I’m currently in the process of prepping the brass. It’s Gold Box older stuff. The flash holes have more burrs than I’ve seen in my Lapua experiences blue box or older gold box. Weight looks good piece to piece. Uniforming pockets with my old Sinclair PPC tool.

Necks are pretty clean but giving them a quick clean to be safe for seating purposes.

We will see how it goes. Gonna be some time yet. The build isn’t done.
