6BR improved

Colby,
I am shooting H4350 in my 6BR, getting 2950 fps, and bug holes with 107 SMK, didn't see the need to go to an improved case.

Jeff,

I've been wanting to use H4350 in my std case 6BR, because that powder has worked so well for me in other calibers. However, I didn't think I could get enough powder in the case to get decent velocities. What's your load and do you have to run a compressed charge? Do you have a real long throat? I shoot the Scenar 105s with an OAL of about 2.355".

Are you running moly or naked bullets.

If H4350 really works, that's great news!

Moderator,
I shoot 34.5 grains, CCI 450 primer, in Lapua case. I use a Forster funnel with the drop tube. The powder level is right at the neck/shoulder junction, this is also where a 107 SMK seated to jump .030" is seated. The load is not compressed, but right at it. I started load work up at 32 grains, and the more powder I added the better it shot, shoots 1 raggedy hole with single digit E.S..

Verrrrry Interesting. "The more powder I added the better it shot--single digit ES"--that is exactly how I described my experience with H4350 in a .260. I'm fascinated that you can get that kind of accuracy jumping as far as you are. Maybe that gives the bullet time to center in the bore--who knows. Just proves there are many ways to skin a cat. I've gone as far out as .015" jump but after that I was getting pressure spikes because I was pushing the base of the bullet into the powder column. You must have a very long throat. Still this is really a pretty remarkable report.

Moderator,
I normally don't "jump" that far either, but thats were it wanted to shoot, the bullets are bare.

I keep hearing the term "Bugholes", is there a relation of this in linear terms, 1's, 2's what?

Well I guess we do need to define our terminology. Here are two 3-shot groups. The top is about .215", not a "bughole" in my mind.

The bottom is .385" edge to edge, so about a .150-160" group, depending how you size the bullet hole. That's a bughole in my view, but YMMV. :D

Moderator, the reason I asked is that every ones opinion is different. I see exactly what you are saying and that is what I assumed. But, Accuracy is not an assumption, "bug hole" statements belong on/in a, actually nowhere, sorry, that is just the way I feel. When you are trying to attain accuracy that kind of statement means absolutely nothing! Just my opinion.
